Zack Arias CreativeLive Workshop

Has anyone purchased the downloads for this? How is it? Worth It? Also, at what level is the material? I have purchased quite a few books and DVDs in the past that were of little use to me as they were aimed for beginners and that was about it.. I've been thinking about purchasing it I just don't want to throw away $130 bucks for info I already know/use currently as I've been into the 'strobist' movement for quite a while now..

i saw his CL workshop live and learned a lot. personally, its worth paying $130.

Flip side, i learned nothing from his CL workshop.

Thats not to say it was bad, it just went through techniques i already knew about.

Herm, in retrospect i did gain more confidence in my knowledge, and have tried to be more "talkative" with my talent, to try to put them in a easier mood, and i now practice talking to them While setting up the lights which is tricky.

I like Zack, great guy, loves teaching photography, and he explains stuff in ways people can understand. Unfortunately for me, he sticks to mostly basic stuff, even during his studio workshop.

But man, that underwater shoot he did ? Good stuff !

because basic is the most important knowlege in everything.... you should go to master class clinics then.

I watched the live workshop. I thought it was great. He covered a lot of material. I have thought about purchasing the dvd even though I already saw it. There are some things I'd like to go over and over. I think it is worth it.

The under water shoot was over the top.

I thought it was WELL worth it. I think I'm definitely going to purchase it at some point in the future.

I already knew a lot of what he covered, but there were a couple of things that spurred me to make the purchase myself...

1) I learned an incredible amount about managing a shoot even though that wasn't the main goal of what he was covering. There are times that you have more than one thing going through your head while shooting, and it was good to see how someone that does that regularly handles it "professionally".

2) It was nice to see the "vision" that goes into a shot as he set up. I'm still working on a style/look of my own, and it was very helpful to see that process played out in front of me.

3) I loved to watch him work with others. To see how he handled students, models, etc. in that kind of environment.

Now, on the other hand, he did cover a lot of material that I am glad that I can fast forward through at this point. If you're the kind of person that is going to see the hour of describing f-stops and aperture as making the whole event a complete and utter waste of time (and there will be people that will come away with that impression), then it may not be a good purchase. However, it is still good to "have it all in one place".

The onelight dvd set (2 dvd) is great. The Creative Live seminar is covering some of the same basic subjects in more details and with more side notes.

Both are great. I watched the seminar live and I was thinking about buying it. If you are on a tight budget you can buy either one. I think you will have more for your money with the Creative Live. But If you don't want to spend three days watching it, buy then just the Zack Onelight DVD.

I agree basics are important, and i did not mean to knock on the workshop it was great, and i believe it was mostly lead by the Questions that were asked of him, which were mostly basics.

I recommend Gregory Heisler, for those looking for some more advanced tips, he has a few great tutorial videos around, and i would personally love to attend a workshop from him, even better if its a CL free one

I got more out of Zack then i got out of JoeyL, zack seems to share much more, and his approach to people and interacting with them is priceless.

I watched most of it live. It was pretty good. It was no master class. But it was definatley a solid class with good information. He basically tought the building blocks.... what you do with them is up to you. I dont mean he tought to the beginner. But he tought techniques that you need, to build your own style.

I watched most of it live. If I had the money I would certainly get it. Although it was a lot of basic info, I felt like it was presented in such a way that you can build on it on your own. Also to note, "basic" to some will be "advanced" to someone else.
