So I have to replace my 5d2 and I'm having issues deciding what to get. I miss my 1ds classic...the AF, Pro Body, etc were heaven, in fact I only went 5d2 because I had a few low light gigs and I needed clean super high ISO.

I am now getting back into photojournalism and I don't want to fear the elements or damage from 'the pit' at events like I did with my 5d2, but I now love doing video. Here are my choices, keep in mind I do mainly studio and portrait work, I second shoot weddings and take photojournalism assignments on a freelance basis:

1ds2 + 60d
5d2 (studio/portraiture) +1d3 (PJ)
1d3+60d

What do you think? What would you do?

p.s. Yes, I know my style and jobs scream d700..but I personally can't stand the thought of using it as my primary body. I have worked with it at weddings and it's not my cup of tea.

5d2 and 1d3.

You still have the pro body as well as the performance of the 5d2. I am going to add a 5d2 to my kit (will have a 1d2n and 5d2 then) so I have a nice ff and 1.3x crop combo.

+1 for the 5D II and 1D III

Happens to be my combo as well, actually :D.

The reason for the 1D III was sports shooting: I could have gotten a 7D or a 1D III, but from an ergonomic POV I couldn't work well with the 7D, so got a used 1D III instead. Very heavy, but very good too :D. And apart from the large VF it also has the advantage that it will still do AF with 100-400L and extender, which is great :D.

Kind regards, Wim

I've been leaning that way. I am thinking I'll get the 1d3 for my Bday next week and the 5d2 for Xmas if anything.. It's a slow time for outdoor portraiture in Winter, I'm in no rush.
