Hello,
After trying all of Canon's suggestions,I am at a loss.My i9900 is just over a year old,and I am having a problem on all picture /paper sizes letter size and up.
The last 3/4 " of any of these paper sizes has a large band .The band is darker at the beginning(1/8")then lighter for the remainder. The band size is constant on any of these paper sizes.Software/spooling issue perhaps?
If it helps, this band starts when the paper slows at the end of the print.
Thanks for any insight you may be able to give me.

Yes,that is borderless. When printing with a border, the border diminishes the banding

ie:1/4" border,the banding is now 1/2",not 3/4"

....maybe the paper is slipping at the end?

Just received a tip and tried it.Put a post-it note on the upper right corner(backside)of the paper being printed, and trick the printer into thinking the paper continues...it worked great!
Any theories as to why this works, and is there a permanent fix available?

Hello Grey Lady,

It's been a while since your post on the "short changed" printout but I was wondering if you resolved the problem?? My i9900 is exhibiting exactly the same behaviour and I haven't been able to get any help from Canon. The Post-It note on the photopaper was a brilliant idea and, yes, it eliminated the problem momentarily.

I may not want to hear what you did, ultimately, to fix this situation but if you can advise the outcome it would be appreciated. My printer is uselelss as it sits.

Thanks
RKQ

Hello RKQ,
I continue to use the post-it notes as mentioned earlier, with no repeat of the symptoms.Maybe check the paper path where the post-it enters to check for a blockage.I am unsure if it uses an optical or mechanical paper sensor to determine the edge.Other than that,I am at a loss as to what to recommend....

Hi,
well I read this post and I am still having this problem.. How big of a stick up are you putting on the back? Im just using a little 1"x1" or something? The banding issue is costing me alot of money I had to throw away 3 - 13x19 canon paper photos in the last week.
I usually dont print borderless I usually crop in photoshop cs2 like 13x19 at 350 res and crop the photo then when I go to print/preview I usually click "size to fit" but on the 11x17's and 13x19's the white border is always off? As in they are not the same size on each size. Anyone have any hints? Also anything else on this black banding issue (I use all canon inks and paper and do cleaning cycles regulary)

The same thing happens on my Can S820 when I use the print option from within Photoshop. When I use Canon zoombrowser, I don't get the banding. I have the option checked for Photoshop to scale the image to fit the page.

Hello all,

I've been having the exact same problem as Greylady described in her original post; I mean exact. I've tried everything to no avail but found that a buiness card size piece of photo paper the same thickness taped to the back of the top right corner of the sheet I'm printing on tricks the printer into thinking it's a longer sheet and the paper feed doesn't slow (which is were I believe the problem lies) until after the image is printed. I use a small piece of safe release scotch tape. Since I use RC coated paper the extra paper peels right off.

However, the other solution I found was to change the page size settings from 8.5x11 to 8.5x10.4 in the print preferences under custom. I print exclusively on Ilford Classic Pearl and have several profiles saved so I just updated them. When I print either an 8x10 or say two 5x7's the images a moved closer together and within a 1/4in from the leading edge because it thinks it's printing on an 8.5x10.4 sheet of paper. This leaves a 3/4in boarder on the trailing edge of the 8.5x11 sheet used and the banding doesn't fall on the image. I don't have a problem with two 4x6's because they naturally leave a larger border. Works like a charm and saves the hassle of adding the post-it note. I also never print borderless and trim all my photos with a rotary cutter so this works for me. Now I print from my Nikon View software and don't know if this will work with photoshop or the canon print software but you may want to give it a try. Thought some people may want to know this. If anyone discovers a permanent solution please let me know.

I personally think it's a paper feed/misalignment problem when the paper slows for the last 3/4 in the printer. It's probably a mechanical fix and not a software/driver fix I'm guessing. I have no doubt that Canon probably knows about this on some printers. Mine is only a year and a half old and Canon will do nothing other then direct me to a service center. I've thought many times of switching over to another manufacturer but I really like the prints I get out of these printers and I almost never had a head clog. I actually have not had mine clog for over a year and even then it was very minor and a quick clean. My pinter may sit for several weeks at a time and it still never clogs. I'm also getting excellent color fastness with the Ilford Gallery Classic Pearl paper. I have prints that I have had on my refrigerator for a year and a half that have shown absolutely no color fading. I've had prints with Canon Photo Paper Pro discolor on the same refrigerator in four months. Although, you can not let these prints stack in the printer or they will stick together. They need to dry for about 15 minutes before you stack them. I deal with this and am happy with my result. But I just want to get rid of this banding at the end of the paper.

Darrell
