I still have the 1.1.0 firmware on my 5Dmk2, is it worth updating?

I don't shoot video, so I'm not fussed about the video updates. All I'm really interested in is if the image quality increases with any of the updates. Or noise control, focusing ability etc..

Do any of the updates actually improve the performance of the camera, or should I just stay at 1.1.0?

Have a look at the firmware Q&A section, it outlines what changes have been made in the various versions. Then you can decide, but there is no negative impact to upgrading the firmware to ver 2.0.7

Just update. What can it hurt?

When I had a 5DII I updated all the time, it's not a big deal.

Ah thanks dude. So basically, Canon have done nothing to fix the 5D's terrible problem with shadow noise.

God I can't wait to move to Nikon.

The main problem being that I can't be bothered, and see no reason to if none of the updates improve how I shoot.

I can understand that. But it doesn't take too long to do on the other hand.

BTW switch to Nikon. It's great! The zooms are better (2.8 ) overall and the primes are improving. :D

You've spent longer time writing this post and reading all the subsequent replies and complaining why Canon didn't fix what you wanted to fix, when you could have just updated the firmware yourself in less time. I'm surprised Canon is still around, seeing that you're unhappy.

It's not really the length of time, more the necessity. The update fixes bugs I haven't experienced, and only provides extra functionality to video, which I don't use.

Seriously can't wait for the switch. The shadow noise is really beginning to bug me on this camera now.

Just the inconvenience really. Plus I have invested a lot of money in lenses; most of the work I do is commercial, it's nice to know a camera system well enough to know what results I'm going to get. Also I'm a little bit scared the grass may not be greener on the other side.

And yet you still haven't updated the firmware. LOL Just do it and continue on so Canon can still continue on and be happy knowing you've done it. It won't hurt anything.

I hope you're not the type that doesn't cooperate when your automobile is being recalled due to a major issue, because it doesn't resolve want you wanted it to resolve. Then, you wonder why it started on fire or you couldn't stop.

Get a 1Ds Mark III if all you do is commercial and the 5D Mark II isn't up to par.

A bigger, heavier, older camera that produces slightly inferior images but is in the same price bracket as a d3x?

I'm beginning to wish I'd never mentioned Nikon now.

Of course you update when there is something. They may very well have fixed other minor issues too, things they don't even care to mention. But they could be good for you anyway, now or later.
