Hi guys, im facing a bit of a dilemma, as i really do like me 15-85mm, but recently im feeling its just not quite good enough and at the moment i want something a bit more you know different...

i know this is an extreme change, but iv been interested in the 100mm L macro IS, and have been contemplating it for a while... i now have a bit of spare cash, and if i sell my 15-85, can easily get the Macro.

Bearing in mind i still have...

Canon 10-22mm
Canon 50mm MK II
Canon 70-200L f4 IS

Just let me add sorry, i mainly do landscape and urban work!

Well...what about the 15-85mm isn't good enough for you? The other obvious question is do you like shooting macro?

Get the 100mm L macro IS. I bought it together with my 7D. It is a very reasonably priced lens for all its functions.

Trust me, you will have another field open up right in front of your eyes. It is a fun lens to shoot.

I just find theres to much CA shooting wide open, and it just doesn't feel sharp enough for me... especially when i compare to the likes of my 70-200.

I mainly use 70-200 as my walkabout now! Plus i think im a tad bored lol

I would miss the 15-85 for everyday use. What about the non-L 100 macro? Save you some money and allow you to keep the 15-85.

Would you use the 100 for macro only? If you would use it for portraits and not so serious macro maybe you could look into the 60 macro. Nice for portraits and 1:1 for macro, working distance for macro is tougher with the 60 vs the 100. Getting the 60, around $325 used, would allow you to keep the 15-85 and still add a macro.

Maybe try keeping your 70-200 at 100, walk around with that for a few and see how much you would really use the 100mm focal length.

So what is it about the 15-85is that's not quite as good for what you use it for? Is it the wrong tool for the right job, where the 100isL would be? And why? Apologies for asking, but I'm not understanding where the shortfall is and how the 100L will fix it.

If you are after a really good street lens, I would sell your both your 15-85 and 70-200 4 IS, and get a 70-200 2.8 IS II.

Ugh, I composed along message and hit the wrong key and it was gone.... shoot.

The gist, 100mm may be too long for street photography. If you don't like your 15-85, you might consider something else, a 60mm macro or maybe even a different wide lens like a 17-40 or 17-55.

Then the answer should be obvious, IMO. :)
