BLAST! I just typed up a long reply, and it told me the page couldnt be found when I hit the Submit button!

Ok, I'll make this brief, I dont feel like typing it all up again..

been shooting a 300D, thought the images were rather soft, Tryed out a 50mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8, 100mm 2.8 Macro, all which I've been told are SHARP, looked great on LCD, came on and looked at them, and they were SOFT!

Made a Focus test chart, spaced lines 2mm apart, numbered them from 0-15, mounted camera at a 45* angle. I'm getting 12-20mm of Backfocus on all 3 of my lenses (kit lens, Tamron 28-105, Canon 75-300)

Any fix for this, with out having to send it Canon?

Also, if anyone wants a copy of the Focus Chart, I can email it over or post it up

Thanks!

Johnny

Did you use a vertical plane target and a parallel plane to the camera sensor, target. If you just aimed at the chart of lines, you may have erronous results. The focus points are a bit larger than the viewfinder indicates, you may not be focusing where you think you are. Thus the importance of a single plane target, parallel with the camera sensor. A flat target set up by your taget line. There have been numerous discussions about this type of problem, and most of the misfocusing is operator error. My first venture into this area proved out to be my not understanding how to use the auto-focus. A search will find you many discusions to consider. Actually most complaints of soft pictures turns out too be the expectation of fully sharpened and contrasty picture out of the camera. To get this one needs to set the parameters to high or just work them in photoshop or other editor. Also I find I get the best results by focusing with the center point only and hholding the focus lock, recomposing for my desired composition. The center spot seems most accurate and eliminates the camera choosing a spot I didn't want as well.

the Objects are out of focus, I am certain of this. (I know all about post processing, etc)

I used a modified version of a few focusing tests that I've seen, I just found it easier to mount the camera at a 45* then my target, I ligned my center focus point on the center of my target and clicked the shutter (using MLU to eliminate the chance of me 'pulling' the camera up when I clicked the shutter)

I know the Camera is back focusing, I just want to know if I have to send it in to canon or if Its something I can fix here.

I'm on my way over to the Western Repair facility right now.

looks like its a problem they caused, the focus screen fell loose and I took it in for service, the tech said it was 99% chance it was there mistake
