Hi Guys,

I just sold my 5D mk II and placed the order for the 1D Mk IV. (together with the 24-70 f/2.8)

I am starting to get the feeling that I have made a miskate.
Most of my shots are of my kids and I am begining to think that the 1D Mk IV Image quality will not match the 5D Mk II.

does anyone have them both ?

I read that the IQ of the 5D mk II is superior to the 1D.

Please help me out as I can still cancel the order fot the 1D and place an order for a new 5D.

If you read all this stuff about the 5DII having better IQ, WHY did you make the change?

Didn't you do the research beforehand ?

That said, the AF/speed/performance of the 1DIV should be light years ahead of the 5DII.

Stop worrying! You will make yourself nuts! Just enjoy the new camera and work with it. That being said, that's why I kept my 5D2 and bought the 7D. I can't live without the speed, but can't hold the 1D series cameras in my small hands. If you absolutely hate it, then just trade it back. Don't worry about it so much right now.

Enjoy your new camera. I wish my 5D was faster, but, I do not need it for 90% of what I do. I do not have the 1D or 1Ds, since I have small hands. You will go crazy if you second guess yourself. Use your new camera and don't look back.

Dont sweat it, the mk4 is a fantastic camera in every angle you choose to see it
Try it and if you don't enjoy using it be aware of the return policy of the dealer time and trade it for another 5DII

After you start taking pictures of your kids with the Mark IV, you'll wonder how you lived without it.:)

You must be my father-in-law. When someone gets hurt by accident he'll say, "why did you do that? Don't do it again."

Thank you. bw!

I have 3 kids and 2 of them are in sport activities, although the 5d mark 2 is capable, I am always grabbing the 1D4 out of the bag. Actually, I never understood why some people were complaining about the AF on the 5D2 because I always found it acceptable for what I take pictures of. Now after owning the 1D4, I understand that the AF on the 5D2 is lacking.

I can understand your remorse because the pq out of the 5d mark 2 is so good but after you start using your 1d4, I don't think you will be dissappointed. I am very satisfied with the 1d4 and I prefer using it over my 5d2.

Thank you all so much for your replies...

Squaresnappr, can you please tell me, assuming that IQ is most important to me. (Of course I would love to have 10fps and better Autofocus), should I keep the order for the 1D or change it back to 5D ?

Or in other words, if I take the same shots with both cameras, will I be able to clearly say "the IQ on the 5D is better than the 1D" ???

I am sorry that I ask too much, it is just the fact that I am not buyig the camera locally, I just order it from Hong-Kong.

Thanks.

Sarel.

I cant tell the image quality difference between 1d iv and 5d ii. Heck, i take pictures with 1d iii and 7d and cant tell anyone of them apart unless i take the files and start to look at pixel level and still have hard time.

No sympathy here. I mean really, are we supposed to feel bad for you because you only have a 1D Mk IV?!

In terms of IQ both should be very similar, but with a combination of low light and energetic children I reckon you'll have more keepers with the 1 series.
