Some shots from todays practice. Got 2 more days to go.......YEEHA! As much as I love shooting planes, It's only the second real airshow I have ever been to, and the last one I saw was back in the early 90's

First time I have seen the new RAAF Rhino, and the first time for the big C-17 too. We get a lot of hornets up here and hawks, but not a lot else. I missed the F111 pracitce as I got there a little late, that's what I am concentrating on tomorrow. It will be one of the last displays of it in the world, so I want to try and really nail it, esp the dump and burn.

I'm really working on my shutter speeds for prop planes. I lost a lot, but managed to snag a few. The more I practice it, the more I appreciate a full prop ring of an old warbird attached to a razor sharp image that I often see on this forum.

#2 is a little soft, but it is a fair old crop. And the sun is in a prick of a spot by the time they come to fly in the arvo, esp late in the day. Static in the morning, flying from noon. But anyway, this is better than anything else I can think of doing!
Have at them guys, I'm always open to hearing advice on crops, edits, style, angles whatever.

I like them all. It's a shame the wings on the big birds are cropped, but they're still very nice pics. Actually, the clipped wings in the first pic makes the bird feel big :) . Thanks for sharing.

Hi Dale The first one is full span in the original crop. I actually cropped it to give it the big feel you mentioned. I guess it worked?

I really like the sort of shot that you often see of 747's and the like in a similar angle that show off just how big they are, and I was trying to do the same.
I know what you mean though, I should have also diplayed a full span version so both shots of the same craft weren't cropped.
The bottom one is pretty much full frame as I was going for that angry imposing look as it is pretty much dead on straight.
Once again, hard for me to work out exactly how to crop it. The orig has the full tail, but then it becomes a tall image which isn't what I was after.

The Herc was snipped to try and show off those props. The big girls are hard for me to crop right, as when I do a full span crop it makes it look so small! Fine on my screen full size at 1680 wide, but at 1024 things get small!

I'll post some more tomorrow night, but now I have to get up at 5 and do it all again...and it's midnight now......and I like my sleep!

Cheers
Paul

Excellent series!

Good job with the prop blur, too! They look better than what I usually get.

Thanks photos guy. You know though I won't be happy until I get a warbird with a full prop ring that you could cut yourself on! That's the incremental challenge I have set.......Good thing I have a couple of cards and a laptop to file dump during the day!

I did try a mono on a couple, but found it a PITA to use and I find it doesn't really help my keeper rate. I have a nice ballhead fitted, but I still find it easier overall to hand hold. Maybe I should keep trying with it?

Couple more. What does it mean when your 9 year old laughs at the bottom one and says "it looks like a booby Dad" !!!

These captures are terrific and you've done a good job with the prop blur. My favorite is the Boomerang. :D

I like your C17 & Herc shots. I was disappointed that they both did not fly on Saturday.
