OK, I know this is has come up before, please don't bite my head off. I have an S1IS, which is considered old I realize but I like it and it still takes perfectly good "snaps" so it's frustrating when I keep getting the battery message when the batteries are still OK. What's the point in buying a newer compact if I'll have the same problem again? Doing a search for Canon battery problems brings up multiple hits. Is it intentional built in obsolescence?

Have tried all kinds. rechargables and others. I know how many shots I used to get with throw aways and it is NOTHING like that now. Also if I test the batteries after the "change batteries" message they are still OK.

Tried Eneloops? Or it could just be that as your camera ages oxidation along the contacts is increasing the current drain.

Thanks for your input. I'll check to see if those batteries are available in Australia though I feel it is some other issue. Have looked for signs of any matter at all on contacts and there is none. Have also tried resetting the image counter which apparently worked for some people but didn't work for me. As I said before I'm VERY apprehensive about buying another Canon compact since this seems to be such a common problem.

There are different battery code numbers, is there a specific one that works best?

For Eneloops? Any Eneloop AA cells work the same for me.
