I always shoot with 4 gb cards. Sure, you have to change them out every once in a while, but I've never found myself changing cards during a critical point in the wedding. I tend to swap them out prior to different parts of the wedding though. Pre-ceremony on one card... swap. Ceremony and family formals... swap. Bridal party pictures and just married session... swap. And finally the reception. I may not fill my cards all the way, but I'm always on top of them and are confident at any given point that I have plenty of available space.

The question is... do you need 130 photos of the bride putting her make up on?

I switch out after every "event"

One for girls getting ready. One for guys. One for before photos. One for ceremony. One for formals after. One for group photos after... 16 gig for reception...

it also really helps with keeping them organized afterwards. They all get uploaded to their own folder instead of having to move them after the fact.

why do you want them in their own folder?

In my single card cameras, I will use nothing more than 4GB cards. I've been through about 6 failed CF cards and have had to deal with corrupted images more times than I care for. Now it's only sandisk extreme (apparently they're physically more robust too). In my 1-series bodies I use 16gb cards... the dual cards are lovely.

It's not a matter of IF... more like WHEN. If you shoot at a high enough volume you will eventually encounter a bad card. Just hope that it corrupts non-important shots.

just the way i like to work. I just like everythign organized in their own seperate folders. Also, for me, it makes uploading them online for me later, easier. takes a long time to upload 750 high resolution images all at once... a day or two, especially over here in the United States with our slow arse upload speeds... uploading a few portions at a time makes life easier for me.

that's why i do it... and for card failure. if a card fails, i only lose a small amount of data. Sure... people use the excuse of, well, if you have more cards, chances are more likely one will fail... i just laugh at that... odds are the same... 1:100 is the same as 2:200... So if i had used 10 cards that day and 9 failed... i would still have some photos... if i used one large card and it failed... i'd have none. It is just a sensless risk to take in my opinion. Why risk it when changing over cards in between different events of the day always keeps your cards full and gives you at least some protection over a total whole days loss.

I've have great luck with kingston even though they are priced quite attractively. Even went through the wash one time. It would be great of the 5d3 came with dual CF slots.

I.also switch cards for each "section" of the day- getting ready, the ceremony, group and bridal party, and reception. I use an 8gb for the ceremony and the reception, usually fours for the rest. I also shoot probably 50/50 raw/jpg, so I'm usually ok for space, just like to keep each part of the day separate in case of loss, theft, or corrupt data.
