Almost bought one until I read the disclaimer . Anyone here buy Open Box from them?

Newegg tests Open Box products for basic functionality only.
Due to the varying quality of products returned to Newegg, YOU ARE TAKING A RISK BUYING OPEN BOX PRODUCTS.
Newegg makes every attempt to supply the original accessories for Open Box products. However, regardless of what the product description says, Newegg only guarantees that you will receive the product itself; accessories may or may not be included. Bear in mind that your open box product may not contain cables, adaptors, manuals, CDs, drivers, fans, etc.

Newegg will not send you any missing accessory, even if the accessory is required in order to properly make use of all the product’s advertised functions.

While Newegg does not like to discourage sales, please purchase open box products only if you know how to deal with potential missing accessories.

I AGREE TO THE CONDITIONS AS STATED ABOVE:

Yes, you can call me Tom

Yeah, you have to be careful about buying anything that comes with a lot of essential parts. For example I won't buy open box motherboards. I did buy an open box lens from them a few years ago and it came with everything it should have. In this case I would go for it if I needed it, still will be covered by Canon's warranty.

I have not purchased any lenses from them before, but I think the disclaimer is pointed more towards computer hardware (being that's their main business), where parts are a big part of proper functionality. For lenses, besides the hood and quite possibly the front/rear caps, what can be missing that will cause a camera to not work properly?

Worst case scenario, you have 30 days to return it:

What is an Open Box item?

Open Box items have been opened and touched and/or returned. Because they originate from different situations, they may or may not include accessories, documentation or retail packaging. Refurbishment is done by the manufacturer. Open Box products are warranted for only 30 days. We recommend that you try out your Open Box product immediately after receiving it.

Yeah, I was reading that and as well as amazon review. However, I decided to save up more money to get f2.8 IS or f4L IS, hence I am investing the gear for long term. Guess best to wait and get the right gear, vs having to try sell them to upgrade.

The II will be more manly. It weighs like 8x as much :p

I looked at the lens sample archive here and 95% of the pictures i saw are out side sunny days. the reviews say bad for indoors and low light. I just want the option of doing some indoor stuff ........... at 200mm
I am not trying to discount this lens at all. again I wanted to buy this

Nothing wrong with the F4 (is or non is) it's a damn good lens and a great deal in it's price category. I took the advice of someone who had been around the block to get non IS for greater portability. I could not see myself carrying around a 2.8 IS lens in a public place. Nor would i want to be tied to a tripod because my arms are ready to fall off from pumping lens iron all day.
