I am pretty new to HDR and have been noticing that some of my shots have unwanted pink highlights. In the photo below, look at the rails and trees. What is causing this and how do I fix it? (I am shooting all of my shots with I tripod using a T2i)

Thanks for the help!

edit - I'm using Photoshop CS5 to process the HDR photo. At first I thought it was the color getting blown out, but the pink doesn't go away unless I make the shot B&W.

Here is another example; I also noticed some blue looking artifacts on the middle building. The only way for me to get rid of them is to up the Edge Glow strength, but that takes the shot away from what I want it to look like. Any thoughts on what is causing this?

No one has ran into this problem before?

It is chromatic aberration, if you are talking about the artifacting at high-contrast edges.

Ah, ok. So it looks like the best way to correct it is to select the spots and desaturate them?

There are several ways of addressing CA - you can try to combat it in your RAW converter of choice (if the source images are RAW) and then export those images as TIFFs and import into your HDR app of choice. You can use various Photoshop approaches, including the lens correction modules, if they apply to your set up. You can try to tick the "Chromatic Aberration" checkbox in Photomatix during the merge process.

If you are talking about small spots of pink, then I think we are talking about different phenomena here. I am talking about edges of high contrast (like that between the building and sky) where fringes of color exist on the edge as as result of optics bending various wavelengths slightly differently.

Do a google search or a forum search on chromatic aberration to get some details on the phenomenon and what you can do to combat it in the creation of HDR data.

Good luck,

kirk

Hmm. I'm using Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3. I don't have Photomatix. I'll look into lens correction; I have seen it while processing but haven't messed with it.
