Hi all,
I used my camera the night before and it was ok. Yesterday, I turned on my camera, and the lens only pop out half way. The display was fully bright.
I took the batter out and recharge until it full.
I tried it again. The lens is still pop out half way. When I tried to hit the the power button to close the lens, it was still move half way, and won't close it.
The display is fully bright and I can view all the picture.
Does it mean the motor to push the lens out broke?
Please help,
Thanks
LaRatta

Welcome to the forum.

There are many possible scenarios. To get more details, you might do some google-type of searches... but here are a few thoughts.

* dirt or sand particles in the gears of the lens mechanism
* the lens barrel was bumped while extended and then got out of alignment
* the camera was turned-on at some point in time when something blocked the lens from extending... again, mechanism jammed or got out of alignment
* an internal screw (right wrist strap bracket) got loose and shorted out some electronics, such as zoom control components (or screw even got into lens gears -- is that physically possible? I don't know).
* some protective fuse blew or opened perhaps due to too much effort to open lens fully (some fuses may be resettable -- try leaving battery and SD card out for several hours or even a full day, then try again)

I have read on some blogs about ways to hit a camera or to force lens assembly with some pressure/pushing -- I do not recommend you do that unless you first find and read those instructions, and then are willing to risk damaging the camera even further. Sometimes folks get it to work for awhile, but the problem recurs. A much better 'fix' is to contact a third-party camera repair place. I know of one good one I used for my G9. Others have consistently mentioned a couple other service places as well.

Good luck. Hope you find an easy fix.
