What shutter speed were you using?

Here is his EXIF into in the images:

1. # Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/1000 second ===> 0.001 second
# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 4/1 ===> ƒ/4
# Exposure Program = manual control (1)
# ISO Speed Ratings = 100

2.# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/1000 second ===> 0.001 second
# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 4/1 ===> ƒ/4
# Exposure Program = manual control (1)
# ISO Speed Ratings = 125

It appears you are not hitting the focus on these for some reason. I assume you are using the 70-200. That is a great lens and will of course produce very sharp images. Are you using more then just the middle focus point?

Thanks for the exif data as shutter speed is not the issue. They do seem oof.

Using zone auto focus with the center group selected on these shots. I agree they should be sharper.

Try just using the one center point. Also use the AI-Servo AF. The first one appears to be back focused (could be due to the player running after you set your focus), but the second one appears to be front focused.
