The 40D and 50D have the same continuous speed, 6.3 frames/s.

Above, a white paper is mentioned for the 7D. Is there one somewhere? Last time I looked I couldn't find any. The nearest I came was a series of screens at Canon's European website.

I've actually now had an experience with Micro Adjust that seems to improve the result with a lens, without causing any other problems. Have to try it in full daylight before I can confirm it, but indoors and outdoors in the evening it seemed to help. But this was with the EF 50 mm f/1.4 USM, so not any zoom.

TeamSpeed is right, I didn't try to say that every 60D user is an idiot, unable to master focus adjustment. I was trying to say that Canon aims each model for a certain segment of customers, and I'm pretty sure that on the average, the lower the cost of the "toy" is, the less intrigued to learn all its pecularities the customers will be.

I think TeamSpeed is right about my age too... Anyone recognizing the camera in my avatar to the left here, and knowing it's my first Canon, can make a good estimate...

The 60d seems to me to be a definite downgrade, for what I shoot the xxD series was really looking good when the 40D came out shooting 6.5 fps. Then it when to 6.2 with the 50D and now its only 5 fps. I was hoping for an increase in shutter speed. I guess the 40D is the camera I think is the best of this series. I would love to be able to find one new in the box. It would make a very nice remote camera.

As far as I understand the history of this, the 40D claimed 6.5 but there are many old stories about it not achieving that. Lots of recriminations.

The 50D made 6.3fps which was the same as the "actual" performance of the 40D

The 60D produces 5.3fps but if you calculate the data throughput of the 50D vs 60D is EXACTLY the same. So the drop in fps is as a direct result to the jump in megapixels.

I would assume the Digic 4 processor is the limiting factor.

To me it looks like canon is shifting their line up to make way for a newer generation of technology. As sensor quality improves it seems XXD and XXXD will merge and become 20mpx + crop sensor lineup. And the 7D category will become a glorified version of that. You never know the XXXXD could have some space to grow from this merge for people on a tight budget.

Nope. That would leave too large a price gap between the entry-level and the 'serious enthusiast' level of the 7D/5D. People are much more likely to upgrade in small increments.

Yes, since they rounded 6.3 to the nearest half.

My 40d did exactly 6 fps. It was still much :)

The 60D is seriously not a disappointment. My friend has this camera and he was very happy with the features and the quality. I even gave it a shot and I was very amazed. Plus with HD recording and many improvements, I would do definitely buy this camera. Right now, I have a 30D and I will upgrade to this or maybe the 7D in the future.

The 60d to me was a disapointment. I spent about an hour with it at my local camera shop and just could not get over the new build of the unit. I put a 70-200 f2.8 on it and it felt as odd as my wifes old t1i. The features are nice but overall I expected a little more. Cheaper component for more MP and an articulating screen with video. Doesnt work for me.

I'm loving my 60D.

I don't get the build complaints, except that some people must equate heavy and metallic with quality. I personally think the weight is perfect, and the plastic is probaby just as realistically strong as the mag-alloy, and possibly more resilient.

Anyway, finally got around to doing some macros the other day:

Also, about frames in burst mode - the 60D actually does 6.1fps in RAW bursts! This was demonstrated by users on dpreview recently! So if you use shoot RAW, and you should, then the 60D is a 6fps camera. Not 5.3. :-P

Anyway, finally got around to doing some macros the other day:

No it is not 6.1fps.

It is 5.3fps.

You should read all of this thread at DPR in flat view.

Agreed that the 60D is definitely not a disappointment. I shot a wedding (video) yesterday, and the articulated screen was a life saver. I laughed at my partner who struggled to get shots with his 7D I could get with ease on my 60D :D Seriously, 60D + Monopod is perfect for weddings

The articulated LCD is fantastic to have. However, it's nothing new. Canon PowerShot Pro1 of 2004 had this facility. On 60D Canon had to add an extra feature in order to make it marketable.

In fact, after release of 7D; there was no slot for a 60D to sit between 50D and 7D. But the hue and cry for it was so loud that Canon had to give in. The outcome is 60D – a tiny and fragile DSLR. To 50D owners it’s toy. No 50D user one earth will go for it. If at all, they will go for 7D. Then who are it’s customers? As expected by Canon and suggested by experts – the entry model users. In fact they are the right customers for it. One of my amateur photographer friends using 500D sold his body and bought 60D last week. Based on such observations; the conclusion is - EOS 60D is another advanced entry-level model.
