Silly Question..

I have a question.. I'm having a bit of trouble with my Canon 50D camera.
I have no idea why, but when I press the shutter button, nothing happens! I have my lens on auto focus, and when I aim and the subject I'm shooting, and press the shutter button half way, it beeps "beepbeep" but.. when I press the button, nothing happens!!!!!!!!!!! I was using my camera yesterday, and it was perfectly fine!!

I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation, but I don't know what it is.

Is it not achieving focus and therefore not firing off a shot?

Were you trying to take a close up on something ? Every lens has a minimum focusing distance, sometimes when your on the boundary of this distance you can sway in and out of focus, if your using "one shot" mode this may prevent the shot from being taken.

It is achieving focus!
And no, I wasn't trying to take a close up, I even tired with manual focus.. this thing is driving me crazy! It was working fine last night, the same lens, the same settings, everything!

If you use AI Servo mode, can you take a shot ?

No.. I tired all modes :S it's just not responding.. but it is achieving focus however, when I press the shutter button half way, and it beeps.

Could it have been flipped to self timer mode by accident?

Do you have a CF card inserted in the camera?

Try removing the battery completely for a couple of minutes. Had that happen with a Rebel XS a while back and removing and reinserting the battery it was fixed.

Have you taken the main battery and the watch battery out for a couple of minutes, or went in and restored the camera to factory defaults?


Is the battery charge very low by any chance?

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

1. Are you saying that you do get focus confirm but the shutter does NOT release?
   
2. If you are, can you try shutter release with a remote - wireless or wired?
   
3. If you are not, do you have the "auto review" turned on? If not, can you turn it on and try shutter release? Is there a preview image?

I would try this.

Sounds like the shutter isn't triggering the contacts.

Nemesis, yes that's exactly what I'm saying.. but the problem is, I don't have a remote..

Is there enough space on the CF card to record an image?
