Tough sun this weekend. Shadows were a killer. Anyways, these were shot with my 20d, Sigma 100-300mm f4, iso 400 some NR from imagenomic.

Let me know what you think.

Dude your pictures are always tack sharp and the colors are vibrant!
It's amazing that you get this type of result out of a 20D and Sigma Glass.
Great Action shots!

Nice. My only comments for what they're worth (I'm no way near as proficient as you) would be; arm missing in #1, I like to have a little space in front of the players to move into in #2 and #4 (rule of thirds).

Understood about the arm, but I was trying to focus on the black team and the way they were moving did not allow me to get the arm.

I always shoot tight and crop tighter. I hear where you are coming from, but on the fields I shoot, there are a lot of bad backgrounds and things I want to take out that don't make for a good image. Hence the tight crops.

Backgrounds are very tough with 7-8 games going on around me on all the fields at our complex.

Bright shining sun can be a pain in the butt, but you did a good job keeping the highlights in control. One thing I would suggest would be to shoot from a lower perspective. I find that, especially with kids, the lower you are, the more separation you get and the perspective is more captivating. Some of these look like you were standing/kneeling; I like I lay prone when doing little league/AYSO soccer because it gives me better faces. All in all, your timing is good, these aren't bad shots, I would just try that next time out.

For the ones in the red, I was on the ground, kneeling. Tough to shoot the kids and coach the games if you know what I mean.

For the ones in the black uni's, I had to stand, getting older and I was not moving as well as I normally do after a morning of yard work if you know what I mean.

I almost always shoot sitting on a stool or on the ground though.

Same comments from me. I was thinking the shots are really excellent, but would have adjusted #2 and #4 crops as indicated.

Great expression on #6!

Good work.

Exposures are decent.
Crops are too tight, try to stick with the rule of 3rds.
Down angle on kids is less than desirable, well really for any age in this sport. Some use knee pads,
I have a small tripod chair that puts me at the same height so I dont have to wear out my already worn out and old knees! A lower angle also takes the grass out of the focus equation so you get more dead on hits.

The originals are no longer available so it's hard to compare. But I would say you are still tending to center the player more than you should. I would use about the same cropping frame, but shift a bit to open space in the direction the player is heading.

You could also take out a bit of the grass in the foreground.

Very nice images!
