How do I make a micro focus adjustment on my 120-300 OS? Which way?
I own a 70D. If I want to calibrate so much of the variabel range as possible?

Start with page 377 of the manual. It describes the process fairly well.

I started another thread https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1359787, but I gather here it might get more attention.

I am wondering how people are finding the Sports 120-300 for shooting what it was named for - Sports.

Does anyone have any experience shooting sports on the Sports version?

Also, how do you find the tracking on AI SERVO - on a 7D, 5D3 or 1D4 or 1Dx?

And lastly, how do you find the lens with both/either a Sigma and/or Canon tele converter?

I have browsed all the mention of soccer & football in here, and most of them seem to be prior to the latest incarnation of this seemingly amazing lens. I need tracking accuracy and speed, and am aware it can be tweaked with the USB hub. But I want to know if my $3k I am saving up would be better spent as a down-payment on a 300 f2.8 IS II or if the Sigma Sports is going to get the job done.

Gabe I'm still working on getting close to a Starling. :) I really like the squirrel in the snow. Here's a Chickadee from a couple days before the Vireo.

Nice Chikadee!
I used to have a lot more Chikadees in the past; this winter they seem to be skipping my backyard. I miss them.
Starlings show up at least once a day and often they are like locust :) If they spend a few minutes at my feeders, I know that soon I need to fill them up :)

I've been following this discussion with great interest, and think I've read all 308 pages over the course of this week. I've owned a Sigma 500mm f/4.5 for a couple of years and got some great results with it, however at times I've found I needed a little less reach, so I recently bought the 120-300 2013 'S' version. So far, I'm delighted with it.

I've heard recently of a number of people who've gone with the 1.4x and 2x TCs on the 120-300 f/2.8 and sold their 500 f/4.5 because it became superfluous. At first, I though "no way", but having seen what Gabe and others can do here with TCs, I've just snapped up a 1.4x and a 2x to try it out for myself. Sure, TCs on the 120-300 are going to lose me some light, but the 120-300 has the OS which is sadly lacking on the 500 and my D800 is no slouch when it comes to cranking up the ISO. The 120-300's MFD is a couple of metres closer than the 500 too, so as long as I can achieve good enough sharpness I don't really see the point of keeping the 500?

The 1.4x arrived yesterday and from what I've seen so far, I'd be hard pressed to say the results wide open are any less sharp than the bare lens on my D800. Haven't played with the D7100 yet, which at 24MP on a crop sensor is a real torture test for lenses. The 2x should arrive in the next couple of days and after some evaluation I'll decide on whether to roll on my 500mm, buy some other much needed glass with the ££££, and lose some serious weight from my wildlife kit.

Seems a great community over here, and in 308 pages I haven't seen any evidence of quarrelling, flaming or any other kind of abuse, which is a rare find on internet forums these days.

This is also the best resource I've found on the 120-300 by far.

If no one minds my being from the 'other' side, I'd like to stick around.

Thanks. I've got some serious sorting out to do on my website, which with a 0.3Mb/s upload speed is painful. However, I'm moving house in a couple of weeks and my upload speed is going up to 6Mb/s, so I'll be well sorted :D

I've found a few issues with Zenfolio lately. The high res images look great, but their downsizing algorithms have a habit of making the smaller images look 'soft'. I think the solution will be to upload images optimised at lower resolution and keep the high res stuff at home for printing.

Here's a few birds as it seems to be the subject of choice on this thread:
