Thanks for the link. Good review.

I'm picking up my lens from Fedex, back from Sigma today. Hope everything is in good order.

Oh yeah, I must remember to do that :)

I actually should have the lens in my hands now but Fedex screwed up.

Here's the story.
They attempted delivery yesterday (May 1st) and since I was working they just left the usual door tag (notice) that they missed me. So I arranged for the package to be held today at a Fedex office location where I was supposed to pick it up today after work. I do that all the time with Fedex.

So I stopped by around 5 p.m. and the lady says it wasn't there yet. I was shocked. Usually it gets there early in the day. She looked, said nope, not here. And also said it normally takes 24 to 48 (!) hours to get to the Fedex location where it's going to be held.

I'm like WHAAAT? Since when?? That never happened before, and I don't think it is like that.

Anyway, I got home, and checked Fedex tracking online, and according to that it had been delivered to the Fedex office at 3:30 p.m.

So I called them and told the lady to look again. She looked and says "Yep, I got it."

That's bull****.
So anyway I will pick it up tomorrow morning on the way to work.

This has been the second time Fedex screwed up. A couple months ago I arranged a package to be held at this same location. I stopped by to pick it up and it wasn't there. The lady checked it, turns out it had been delivered to the other end of town to a different Fedex office. And I had the paperwork in my hand proving I selected this office as the location to be held at.

But don't sweat the small stuff right?
I just hope everything checks out with it.
I'll report back tomorrow.

I picked up the lens this morning. It seems to be working properly.

They fixed the two problems that I had indicated for them:

- The broken OS system

- focus mechanism slippage when the lens was near a vertical position (pointing up or down). This problem I have not mentioned here before even though it had existed since I got the lens.
Description: basically the focus mechanism slips like a slipping clutch in a car and is not able to shift from minimum to infinity if the lens is pointed upwards, and from infinity to MFD if the lens is pointed downwards. This was worse at 300mm. NOT even manually turning the focus ring.
I've heard this affects some copies while other do not exhibit this problem.

So, take a deep breath and check yours :)

Still looks great Gabe. I wish I had your magic windows to sit and enjoy. But at least the
birds are starting to arrive back here, so I should be able to get out and start getting some
shots as well.

Nice Gabe!! Good to hear the lens is working out great.

It looks like your lens works great again :) I like your shots a lot, they are so crisp that they convinced me to get this lens. I will be getting it late June, just in time to go on holiday.

Ordered mine, with Sigma 2X, today----" I've got my fingers crossed"--- Hope it performs as well as Gabe's & Brummel's!!!

Now I'm having to sell one of my (2) 100-400L's, but Canon keeps extending their rebates.

A few more recent shots. Taken with 2x Sigma tc. The cardinal portrait is 50% crop, so is the 2nd eagle shot.

Gabe, awesome shots. And that's with a 2x TC? Impressive! How fast/accurate is the AF with the 2x TC?
