Sample comparisons with 300mm L f2.8 IS

Has shots with 2x canon TC.

edit: actually looks better with the 2x than the canon 300mm f2.8L IS, lol.

These pics look very promising. Really does compare well with the Canon 300.

Its CLOSE to the Canon 300mm f/2.8L IS

Certainly not the difference you expect, For this lens to be uttered as "almost equal" to it is high praise, the fact it actually seems to be just as sharp is even higher...

This lens is a winner, Kudos Sigma, Sod the 70-200 im buying this

Holy crap, is it just me or do the Sigma ones look better or just as good in most cases?

What's interesting is that the FL seems to be indeed a bit shorter than the 300L.

Supposedly it's 289mm or something.

The sharpness and contrast are looking good! There's non of the vile Sigma colour warm cast that plagues a lot of their lenses. The only issue is the less focal length, which obviously drops as the lens focusses to MFD. Other than that slight issue....it's looking like a stunner!

Yeah, toss it on a crop and call it good.

Even if advertised as 280mm I would still buy it.

My only last lingering doubt is how well it handles servo AF mode. My Sigma lens is HSM and for some reason does not have quite the response in servo that my USM lenses have. Must be and added bit of computer chips in there working with the Canon? :(

I think I'll wait a year for the price to drop a tad....current UK retailers want £2499 (RRP)...which is a tad hot. I'll wait a year or so and pick up a new one for £1800 ish.

Probubly a side effect of reverse engineering it, dunno which Sigma you have some are better than others (The 100-300 f/4 is pretty good from my understanding, as is the Sigma 300mm f/2.8)

Its also possible the lens could go -up- in price...at least if current trends hold true

I'm seriously considering saving up, dumping my 100-400 and picking this up with a 1.4x and 2x tcon over getting a 70-200..

Speaking of 100.. I have not seen any shots under "300" yet. Did you guys see anything? The lens should have an asterisk next to that...

Also, I forgot, doesn't this have weather sealing too?

I love the Japanese! Fully willing to dump my money onto their laps. My form of disaster relief.:lol:
