at last some aviation !! Well done. Slow shutter panning with the 3.5 kilo dumbell. Hows the lens with this subject for you? Decent amount of keepers or more of hit and miss? Cant wait to find myself at Mach loop one day, soon i hope

You want more aviation shots? I can post a bunch.

sure do ! I am away from home for few months while my (not uncommon at all) highly problematic copy (2012 version, not refurbished), has arrived from Japan service waiting for me at home to test if its fixed. My subject is motorsports and aviation.

I could have processed these aviation shots better, the conditions were not the best.

You're too modest, Gabe! They look great!

Super !! any of them with the 2x TC? (exif on them report many as 300+, only one 500+, combination of 1.4x and 2x ?)

The first one (wing walker) was at 526 with the Sigma 2x TC.
Shortly after that I switched to a 1.4x. Reach was fine with the 7D plus it was an extremely hot day, 105 F (record for Dayton that day) and the heat currents were pretty bad. The 2x did not add any quality reach since those long distance shots with the 2x were mostly just magnified mush :)
So the 2x was fine at the start but soon the atmosphere was too bad for it.

By the way, if you scroll down in the EXIF info, there is a lens type (e.g. 240-600mm) entry that tells you what tc I was using. Not sure if that part of the EXIF info shows up on your end though.

This was the only time I've used this lens for an airshow. Hoping to shoot some more this year.

If you like cool airshow shots, check out my Flickr set with pictures from Central Europe's largest airshow last summer. I visited my home country of Hungary (my wedding) and only had my 6D and Sigma 70-200 2.8 OS +2x TC with me, but the conditions were much better and these pictures came out awesome for the gear I used. (The airshow unfortunately threw a minor monkey wrench into the logistics of my wedding since it was only about 8 miles away and traffic was just horrible :) )

Kecskemet, Hungary Air Show 2013 (external link)

So again, these were shot with a 6D and Sigma 70-200 2.8 OS + 2x Sigma TC, which is 400mm (and that's a stretch...) Amazing that only translates to like having a 250mm lens on a 70D :)

I know, we were in contact through flickr before, talking about our Kecskement experience :) I cant praise enough how much i enjoyed that show even if like you i was able to attend only the Sunday and actually missed the evening part due ... to physical exhaustion :( Kecskemet was the highlight of my 2013.

Amazing that those pics were with the (sigma...) 70-200 2.8 + 2x !! And as i was ready to say i can't imagine more horrible heat haze than the 40 celcius of that day in Kecskemet . Very pro to notice the atmospheric hit and switch to the 1.4x, 100% i would be unaware of the situation and i would had kep shooting with the 2x .... (my impaired vision would had contributed to that while checking pics on the camera screen)

For the life of me, I can't understand why some people complain about this lens. Bang for buck, it has to be the best value lens on the market.

Haven't posted on here for a long time as I've been in africa with limited internet but my 120-300 is still going strong! I'm back now and I can say that coupled with the 1.4x converter it made an awesome safari lens!

I now have a contact at Sigma UK and should be able to test the new 120-300 "S" sometime soon but for now here's some pics taken with the old version:

I suppose because, many copies of this lens just don't work (AFAIK until the S version for which i haven't searched for feedback about) .

Actually, I think you will find the majority of us havent been using the S lens. I bought new so Id have the very generous Sigma warranty period should anything go amiss.
Nice work Robin!
