If it's for the SIGMA, save yourself a ton of cash and get the SIGMA T-Con.

Image quality is near as makes no difference IMHO. I'd give the 100-400mm the nod for maintaining sharpness all over the frame across the zoom range, but I think anyone would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

They are otherwise hard to compare, given the fast f/2.8 and handy 600mm f/5.6 that the SIGMA offers that the Canon can not.

The canon will give you faster and more confident AF, and superior IS. The SIGMA's AF is some of the best one can find however.

the price difference is only $30, but i'd probably opt for the newer TC if you are putting it on the sport lens...i'm thinking of swapping to that one myself as my sigma 2X seems to be separating on me...i'm not sure if it's due to the weight of the lens, but there is tons of play in it...i can't imagine it's good, it's still under warranty so i'm going to send it in...but i upgraded my firmware, and it's supposed to be not compatible with the older 2X TC...so i wonder if i'm missing out on some performance

anyways, some shots with my non-combatible 2X and the lens...

Any suggestions for an easy way to carry the lens for hand held work? I thought about the cotton carrier vest.

95% of the time I flip the tripod mount to the top of the lens and just hand carry it. no big deal to walk around holding it that way.

This! I usually keep the lens in a backpack but once I take it out I just carry it using the tripod mount. Works great and its cheap!

only issue is on longer walks, just walked for a few hours and the lens does start to cut into your hand.

I might try to come up with a soft handle to attach to the lens mount.

The tripod mount on the sport is pretty terrible for holding for an extended period

One reason I don't upgrade to the sport... the non sport handle is great and I don't want to add 1lb more just for better build and some custom functions when my OS works, the AF is spot on and the IQ is 95% of the 300 2.8 IS v1 that I had. I got too good of a deal on mine so I'm not moving to the sport.

I can see the sport model having hand issues. It looks sharp!

Sony a6300 + Sigma MC-11 + 120-300 2.8 & 150-600 @ Melbourne Zoo.. small review..

Hot off the presses. I don't think there's too many of these combos around at the moment so figured I'd take it to the zoo and give it a work over.

The Sigma 120-300 2.8 sports is crystal clear. It's sharp. Real sharp. And the AF is impressive. Especially when you consider it's using Phase detection AF @ 445 AF points across the sensor.

As for the a6300, it takes some really nice images. But, having been a 5D Mk3 user, it is frustrating dealing with the .. I wouldn't say crap .. but when you get used to usable high ISO images, and then having to come back down to the crop sensor, anything over 1600 iso is grainy.

But, for tiny camera, it's pretty impressive. 445 AF points, 1.5x crop (so my 120-300 is now 180-450 and the 150-600 is now 225-900mm), 11fps.. The ergonomics have a lot to be desired. I have big man hands and the tiny body and numerous buttons/dials will take a little while to get used to. I found that I accidently kept hitting the off switch accidently.

The EVF is awesome. Love it. When looking directly into sun, for whatever reason it did seem rather dull. But to have a spirit level, histogram and all the details all on the EVF is awesome.

The wifi functionality seems interesting, especially when you can send an image straight to your smartphone. Even RAWs (converted to JPGs).

Going to take it out again for another spin tomorrow at the airport for plane spotting.
