Have anyone used these? I'm looking at the "Strike Finder" and I was wondering if anyone has had any success with these.

Thanks in advance...

I like mine from here..

There was a thread that showed one with a sensitivity dial, and at first I thought it was unnecessary until I came across being in front of a streetlight. At that point I wished I could make adjustments to the sensitivity. I did end up removing it from the hot shoe and angled it down a bit, so it was not the end of the world.

I use it for fireworks as well. I really like it, and I think it's great price..

Since these types of shots are generally at night and use longer exposures, how much do they really help? Ive never really had a problem getting a shot of a firework or lightning strike because each try usually takes a fairly long exposure. In a good storm, its fairly easy to get at least one strike in a 20 second exposure.

Dont get me wrong, Im not knocking the tool - just curious as Ive been looking at them myself.

Very fair question. I typically use no more than 6 sec shots for both fireworks and lightning..

Before the trigger, I would just sit there and try over and over to get the lightning. Now I just set it up and let it do it's thing. Even with the fireworks, I can pretty much enjoy the show and let it do it's thing while making adjustments along the way if necessary.

I would almost go as far to see results are guaranteed.

I bought a Lightning Trigger a couple years ago and just love it. With an approaching storm, just point it in the right direction and I can leave it alone to do its thing while I do something else. Some interim checks to make sure it is still pointed in the direction of the lightning.
Before, maybe 1 out of 30 shots had lightning since one had to guess whether to shoot or not. Afterwards, I would say 95%+ success rate. The 5 % is for flashes that are out of the lens view but still trigger the camera.

Equipment list - According to the wife - "how many more lenses do you need? Yet another camera?" ???

I considered getting one but thought better since I had to be in the same vicinity and just have no desire to be an organic lightning ground source. Fishing with graphite rods in an aluminum bass boat when storms are approaching is about the same as saying "OK God lemme have it"

Hi,

i have been looking for a lightning trigger for quite some time. The followings seem the optimal ones in terms of cost and quality.

The expensive one which seems more professional:

The cheaper one which has lots of positive feedbacks on ebay:

Any feedback will be really appreciated from those who have experience with them.

Tony

I bought both and they marginally work and unfortunately, neither support their products (you get what you pay for). I had extreme problems with both functioning properly :(. Finally ended up purchasing a more expensive one and have never been happier.

Which one did you end up getting and liking?
