They all look underexposed and a tad soft. Tighter crops and more action/reaction are ideal. Great attempt though. A tighter crop on #7 would make it your best. Get back out there and shoot some more and have fun with it.

All extremely dark and under exposed. With a bright sunny day, try base settings to start of:

Av Mode
f2.8
ISO 400 or 800
Shutter: 1/2000 or so
Adjust from there depending on shutter speed and ISO preferences but try and shoot +1/3 to +1 overexposed to compensate for shadows under caps and such. Play around to find the settings you like.

As to action, shoot tight and crop tighter. 5-7 have way too much dead space around them. Crop tighter to player. Sports action is also about faces and expressions. None of that is in shots 1-3.

Keep working at it. Main thing is to get exposures correct then worry about framing and timing.

Feel free to browse my baseball galleries on my main web site for examples.

Cheers!

Chris

great attempt and some nice captures of pitching motion. I agree with others a little underexposed. Looking at his or her gear list, does not include any fast lens that could shoot at your ideal exposure setting. I can definitely relate, because these pictures look similar to mine taken with the 55-250. Sharpness can't compare to the L lenses, and depth of field is not shallow.

here is a shot of mine using 55-250. looks rather soft after some heavy cropping, and somehow focus does not look very accurate either.

Thanks to all. Ive got a question too. Since most of these were all taken at 300mm or near it, would a 1.4x tc be wise to get so i could tighten up on those shots? or would it just degrade my shots even more. Im just a college student so I dont have alot of extra spending money to buy a nice L series. anyone have any suggestions?

Are these the crops straight out of camera?

You're camera wont focus with the 1.4x because you'll be at f8.

If that's the case start cropping in post instead of trying a 1.4x. The last image you posted looks better. You can probably bring it in even more
