Here is a shot and if i may say : A bad shot... Sorry for being this forward but this shot would go in my trashcan if i was selecting the pictures.

Why ?

- a half gitaar
- mic in his face
- a bad expression on his face
- and not sharp at all. Dont mind the right hand of the movement but overall, the picture is not sharp where it supposed to be.

If you got the chance to shoot al whole concert with hem, then please but a better picture on this forum cause i know you have it! Again sorry for being this forward but i think everybody wants to lear on this forum.

Greetz really did put it bluntly but I have to agree.

Really bad expression on his face and the image is slightly OOF. The color temp is a bit cool as well.

Got any others you can share?

Much better but i am still missing sharpness. Also he has the same expression in both fotos (but there is nothing what you can do about that) and he still has red eyes from the flash i quess..

You shot this with
F 5.6
1/60
iso 400
at 135 mm

These settings are very difficult to shoot out of your hands and to get the subject sharp

Next time go to iso 800 or turn down the F. (if possible with your lens) to get a faster shutterspeed so you get sharper pictures.

^ what he said.

They say try to get at least 1/60 if hand holding, but I personally try for at least 1/100 or more if shooting people. At least the red eyes are easy fixes!

this is why i love this forum the bluntness (not in a mean spirit) is great. the first of Randy is a little too much up the nose for me. i never knew he has such big nostrils.

what lens were you using?

iso 800 would be the key in my opinion. I have the 17-85 and low light anything below 800 gives me the same look at these, If you know you are doing an event like this and don't want to spend the money on a faster lens, consider renting. I have a few fast (non L) primes but hate to always carry everything with me. my reunion is coming up so I've rented the 17-55 2.8 IS. (bonus found a 40% off offer sweet!)

we also have a performing arts section in the forum where you would get great feedback from concert photographers.

but yes, everything said here is true.

chopping off the guitar for someone playing a guitar is a bad thing. avoid mic's in the face, etc. no flash for concert shots.
