I have the 17-85 and low light anything below 800 gives me the same look at these, If you know you are doing an event like this and don't want to spend the money on a faster lens, consider renting. I have a few fast (non L) primes but hate to always carry everything with me. my reunion is coming up so I've rented the 17-55 2.8 IS.
