Wow, it's been a while since I've contributed here... such is the cylical nature of community theatre.

Anyway, Theatre Guild, Glasgow, invited me to come along and shoot the dress rehearsal of their 50th anniversary production, Guys And Dolls. I had a great time; it's a really good fun show. And they did a tremendous job of it!

I loved these! You really captured the energy of the show, and they are great technically as well.

Thank you, Cheiri (sorry, been busy and not had a chance to answer). The lighting was mostly quite bright, which gave me the chance to get some decent pics. I've been working with the 5D for almost a year now and have found it to be a difficult beast to master... but I'm feeling a lot better about it than I used to!

Great colourful pictures. I'd say you've mastered the 5D very well!

Good set.
Like the idea of #6, but it should have really been in focus. Now I wouldn't use it.

Thanks, René.

I would agree with you; I thought long and hard before letting people see #6. But I've had more comments about that one than any of the others from people saying they really like it... (people in the show, that is). So that's why I put it in here!

Great pictures Alan. I do some stage photography myself and know how good these are. How much light did you have ie what exposure and ISO did you use?

Thank you, Roy. I just checked back, and I generally seemed to average around 1/200s, f/4 and ISO3200 - so not a bad amount of light all told. I've certainly seen worse.

It was a great fun show, though, and the company members were clearly having a great time

Very good for ISO 3200 - what camera?

Thank you! This was the Canon 5DMkII... It does an amazing job at high ISOs. Mind you, I've not bought a single piece of camera equipment since I got the 5D... still not quite recovered from the shock to the wallet! :D

Also NeatImage at 80% strength, resize and unsharp mask (all in batch).

Well done again Alan (from what I gather, the Lightroom noise reduction would work as well).

I might have missed it in here, but what lens did you use for these? I shoot a lot of theater stuff and these are great.

Thank you! I normally link through to the photographs on flickr, but something didn't work when I was posting them - sorry.

Anyway, these were all shot with the Canon 24-105mm f/4. I was in the theatre at the dress rehearsal as the official photographer, which made things a lot easier. Quite often I like to move around the theatre a lot, but on this occasion I preferred to stay near the centre. I think it just varies between shows.

Thanks again
