Yea it's a pain in the ass anytime a band has a red background or red lights..Canons tend to go ape over it.

for me its flowers, Nikon may not have as much saturation, but it does tend to be more accurate and retain things..

its easier for me to exaggerate something in post with a hint of saturation, its a lot harder for me to correct things like white balance and that...

That took a lot of fiddling to get right, and yes, the red channel blew :(

QUOTED IMAGE

That was the effect you were actually trying to achieve? ??? Yeah there appears to be some definite obliteration of tonality there.

The effect i wanted, and the lighting worked to give me, was i wanted the flower to be illuminated, with the background black and non existant

Wow! Panda, how is your day so far? :)

Nice and gloomy. Found out I should have ran the laundry last night instead of being on here.

Up for 30 hours and I somehow missed the delivery?

I didn't know it was coming via signature confirmation. :(

I like the orange one on your gallery better for sure.

I think the negative part about the above red flower is the areas that look like they are kinda yellow...it looks like you tried to crank the red saturation, but those yellowish highlights didn't get included in the push...and the saturation is a bit overdone in a way that is not attractive, but that's totally just my opinion.

Do you notice with the 7D that it favors the reds too? I'm not alone, right?

You are not alone in that regards. If i have a predominantly red shot, aka flower, i always PP the tones down a bit. Not sure what causes canon to shift so much over.

I agree with you, I really like the -effect- and the -pop- of things, but i cant change the fact the red channel was blown to high heavens... I really need to figure out how to do this sort of shot (Because even though the background was out of focus, it wasnt terribly attractive...But then again perhaps a different lens would have helped matters) because it gives me another way to isolate, also people love the effect...

And Krepta, yes, that would be my entire discussion at the moment XD

Here are some shot from my trip to governors island this past Saturday. For those who dont know, governors island is a small island off the southern coast of Manhattan. Really close and free fairy ride away. All shots taken with the 50L. Let me know what you think as always.

^- i love how isolated and 3D things look ;)

Thats what i miss about film sometimes..But i think its more a case of i dont have the lenses to isolate as effectively anymore

I noticed that CSI (tv show) uses Nikons...maybe this is so all the bloody scenes don't have blown up reds...maybe save some photoshop time for the crime lab...
