I'm looking into getting a new gear. Right now I have a 1d and a tamron 28-75 and I'm looking for more better lense and better iso and more megapixels for cropping and printing. I was thing of selling the 1d and the tamron for the 50d and a 15-85 ef-s canon lense. Would you say the 50d is a good upgrade from the 1d and also the lense? I was also wondering what you guys think about the 7d paired with 28-135 kit. I think I can get it for around the same price used but I don't know if the lense is any good compared to the 15-85 and plus I like the low wide end of the 15-85

50D is a nice camera which has all the advanced features except video. Get the 50D instead of the 7D and use the extra cash for a better lens. On the 50D, the awesome 17-55/2.8 IS rocks, as does the traditional 24-70/2.8L or 24-105/4L IS (if you can live with a slower lens).

It is better to get better glass on the short run.

Thanks! The original reason I got the 1d was because I wanted something for sports and skateboarding but as I started getting better and more into it I started relizing the world and it's not so much skateboarding. Every weekend me and my friends go to New York to skate and I feel bad letting the 1d go even though I would use it less. Could the 50d be great for sports like skateboarding also and get those shots considering I'm no pro skateboard photographer?

The 50D is great for sports. Thats what I do with mine exclusively. The fps definitely help get the perfect shot.

I got my 50D yesterday. I know 7D is even better, but I also know it will be a few years before I grow out of 50D itself. The money I saved (about $700) will now be used for a lens or for an early (well, by my standards ;)) upgrade of a body or a lens.

I just paid 600 bucks for my 50D shipped brand new. Best deal out there.

7D is rad, but for what Im doing with it, 50d is best In my opinion

I'd sell the 1D and the Tamron lens, and replace them with the 50D and a Tamron 17-50.

Do you think the tamron competes good with the 24-105 canon? I'm just looking for a walk around lens and adding a 70-200 later.

Ive decided to keep the 1D because after playing with the 50d yesterday I cant let go of my 1d. The 1d was never something I had to work with and you know what they say when you get a hold of a 1d feel. I also decided I'm going to keep the tamron and get a 70-200 f/4 L and then get a 17-40 L later on and sell the tamron.

Another question since I dont wanna start a new thread. My lumopro lp160 flash will not flash or even test the flash with the button. I hear it working but the red light never turns on. I dont know what to do. I sit the flash and camera on for a while and nothing changes. It says it has a 4 second recycle time anyway.

ya was the 50d new, if it was used i could see it would be 700 bucks about maybe 600, as 40ds go around 400-600 these days.

I PMed him right after the post.. it was not a Canon authorized dealer, but $600 is an awesome price to complain about, and apparently he did get a good camera :)

I bought one recently with the Canon printer MIR and a 28-135 (B&H), and if I am able to sell them for the prices I see at ebay, my 50d would be close to that price as well :)
