Hi

Here is my first attempt at motion blur. Not entirely happy but would appreciate other opinions please :-)

Enhanced with the blur tool in Photoshop but in the main I shot it on a slowish shutter speed and followed the target with my eye and camera then took the shot this one when the vehicle just appeared in the frame or about 1/5 of the way in (depends on the speed of the target)

The rail is a little distracting but other than that I like it, great effort.

The line running across the image may not be a rail, I'm not totally sure (it lays on top of the car); maybe it's the window? but yea, it's quite distracting. Maybe if you had the car in the bottom left corner (or jus left side) to eliminate all the "white"/ empty space..
[edit] eh i feel stupid. i jus realized that it was a railing on the median..

The line is a railing dividing the 2 carraigeways, I agree it would be better without.

Here is the original (untampered)

For me, the biggest issue (apart from the railing) is that the original blur and the added blur don't line up, so the lines in the brickwork behind are clashing, you have an almost crosshatched effect on the second floor.

A nice attempt, but looks a bit faked. If you practise your panning and bring down the shutter speed, you should be able to get that much blur naturally (it helps if you pick a fast moving vehicle too).

Also, too much dead space as mentioned above, the car should fill much more of the frame.

Sandpiper, thanks yes I see what you mean, It was my first attempt so I will definately practise some more to see if i can get to that level of blur. I anticpate that I will need faster vehicles to practice with than the ones I used before.

The original looks better, IMO. It looks more natural. I think I would crop out some of the lower and left side of the image and have more of the car and building.

Im gonna chime in here because I recently started panning on higher focal lengths (200mm on a crop with no IS ain't easy). I can pan at 50mm like its my job but that extra distance, that extra shake is killer.

Your off to a real good start with the idea of panning. I really don't like to PP panning shots other than color correction. Just like PhotosGuy above, I don't mind imperfection in panning shots at all. Its part of the character of the shots. Original looks better imo.

Interesting that the original is more appealing, I can see why. LiberationFrequency - panning at 200mm must be tricky - would love to see some of those shots :)

It looks more as it is standing still then giving a sense of speed.
