Alan,

Canon does not want you to exchange the 10D focusing screen. They'd rather have you buy a 1D to enjoy that privilege

Luckily, there are alternatives.
Look at this thread for one of them that is both (comparably) cheap and - according to some fellow forum members - good:
Split image focusing Screen for 10D 20D 300D 350D are availabe!

Best regards,
Andy

some cameras, some lenses,
and still a lot of things to learn...
(so post processing examples on my images are welcome :D)

Thanks again Andy - oooooo! Just where do I go from here? From an innocent question, I've started to long for the new CANON 5D (which has interchangeable screens) but reckon that I will have to stick with my 10D for some time yet until I have saved up some pennies (by which time there may be a newer model). Not too sure about the HAODA screen - difficult to find any real supporters on this forum as only Mr. Haoda seems to be publishing his own "independent" reviews. If it ain't broke - don't fix it I guess. Others seem to take excellent pictures with their 10Ds so until I can match these, I will stay with what I got.
This last week or so has been a big learning experience though - thanks all again.
Alan
