Two from the Icefields Parkway (north of Lake Louise, south of Jasper, in Alberta Canada). I had the pleasure of going up there with an established photog from Calgary and had a great time. It's a shame the sunrise and sunset we were planning to capture was hidden by overcast and rain... oh well, just means I get to go back soon!

Any comments or criticism towards improving would be greatly appreciated (composition, lighting/exposure blending, perspective, etc)... I post here to learn and hopefully gain new skills or understanding.

This pic was taken midday in harsh sunlight (at my back):

IMAGE: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4148/5013054131_99fb283732_z.jpg
(Tech info: 5D + 17-40L @ 24mm, f16, 1/40s, iso100, circ-pol, tripod + mirror lockup, processed from RAW in CS3 from 3 exposures bracketed @ 1 stop, then blended using masks to properly expose sky, midground, and foreground)

This pic was taken at sunset with heavy overcast. Dispite what it looks, where the horizon meets the glacier is not blown out:
IMAGE: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4111/5013787746_d99a9ff0ac_z.jpg
(Tech info: 5D + 17-40L @ 17mm, f22, 4s, iso100, circ-pol, tripod + mirror lockup, processed from RAW in CS3 from 1 exposure, blended with a darker duplicate to properly expose sky)

Let me know what you think!

Thanks, we were hoping the sun would peek through the clouds and pop some colour into the landscape, but the cold, rocky view still works for me.

Like the first shot, the second not so much... kinda drab and dreary, unless thats what you are going for then it's nice.

It sure is... I just upgraded from a 30D and 10-22. The difference is amazing (but I do miss the sharper corners of the 10-22).

Thanks; I was hoping on some color in the second one but had to make the best of the situation. Even though it's not what I set out for, I believe it still portrays a mood.

Nice. #1 looks so nice, but I would like to add a curves or levels adjustment layer for the sky to pull the clouds more toward white while leaving the sky the same value or perhaps a tad brighter.

Good idea, I'll try messing around with this tonight. I'm afraid of making it look too photoshop'd as I prefer a natural look, but this sounds like a step in the right direction that could make a big difference.

Thanks!
