Does the "N: mean it's compatible with "Noink" lenses? Isn't this a Kodak Product now?

If you look at the close up of the silver body one, it looks to me like the unfinished metal body - no paint. - the 1D2n with it's undies down!

Not quite. 1D Mark II N is compatible with Nikkor mount. The Canon mount version is to be published later this fall.

As a 1DMkII owner,. I'm actually a little disappointed that most of the improvements on this model (other than the larger LCD,.. and of course the "Canon logo now with sunken lettering and fill-in paint "),.. seem to be the sort of thing that could have been addressed in firmware updates..

I'm sure they are not.. people started whining about the lack of RAW on one card and jpeg on another almost befor ethe 1D MkII was released.. i'm sure if it were fixable in firmware it would have been. It's easy to understand that the physical limitations could have prevented it without some new electronics,. but really.. the changes are so small,...

Still it is nice to see the new options.. there's just no way I'll be spending the $4K for this upgrade.

I guess there's not many of us who would be spending $4k for those minor upgrades. But on other side... it's gonna be for first time in digital history I won't need to upgrade. My current 1dmk2 is still same camera... just that lcd shrinked :D But that's not something I would need much anyway :)

I too had expected more out of this release in the 1 series body. I had somewhat resolved myself to upgrading before the announcement but now I'm sure that I won't. There just isn't enough to justify the expense when I've already got the 1DMKII. I had expected to see them move toward a middle ground between the 1DMKII and the 1DsMKII with something with greater MP but maintaining the FPS and other options of the 1DMKII that we like.

Oh well..... Next time I suppose.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

My thoughts exactly, I see no reason to upgrade, but I guess if you are a first time buyer it makes sense to the N.

It's kinda funny how people are dissapointed that they don't have to spend a huge amount of cash to upgrade something they don't really need an upgrade for... "Oh man, now I don't have to spend another 4 grand! Damn!"

:D:D:D

A 20D with katzeye screen, tons of lenses, a couple of
pods, a flash and some bags. Also some MF cameras,
like a RZ67, Moskva 5 and Agfa Isolette I, II, III :)

I AM rather disappointed to be honest. I was looking for an excuse to buy a new 1D Mark II class camera to pair with my existing 1D Mark II. I could then have retired the 10D from its role as backup. Nothing in the ā€œ1D Mark II Nā€ specification gets me excited though.

2.5" LCD and 8.5 fps is good enough for me, to have Mark II N as main camera and my 20D as secondary

I think that there were alot of people expecting to see a whole whack of 1DMKII bodies show up on ebay at firesale prices. I don't see this happening now and those that do show up there will retain alot of their value. The 1DmkIIn purchases, IMO, will be buyers moving up from the 20D and be their first 1 series body.
