I think that there were alot of people expecting to see a whole whack of 1DMKII bodies show up on ebay at firesale prices. I don't see this happening now and those that do show up there will retain alot of their value. The 1DmkIIn purchases, IMO, will be buyers moving up from the 20D and be their first 1 series body.

That's sounds reasonable. And probably I'll be one of them :)

you know what though, many people will be looking at the mkII N, so any MkII's left lying around are going to be going cheap (by cheap I mean lots less than originally sold) and its still a great camera so to be honest there's no harm doen really. also, as mentioned, people might eb moving from 20D to 1series now, means lots of 20Ds going cheap too!

Price drop?? RE: 1D MKII

So whats the deal?? Is the original 1D MKII still in the Canon line-up?? Or is that model discontinued and replaced with the "n" version??

If so............any price drop??

Why can't Canon follow Nikon and drop it to 2500!!!??!!!!

I for one hope it's true, although I'll be more likely to buy a used 1DmkII than a reduced one, since it's still likely to be outside my budget.

Such a minor upgrade suggests that Canon haven't, as yet, been able to increase write speed sufficiently to accomodate a full-frame sensor at 8fps.

I could not have said it any better than that!! As far as I am concerned it is the same camera with a few more doodads but the same camera not worth the upgrade if you ask me. I did send one of my mark II's back in anticipation of the 5D keeping in mind that it would have a different function VS the Mark II. I just want a full frame!! :D Without the loony price and now we have it.

the silver chassis underneath looks cool, wish they released a couple of special edition ones like that... mind you, might give away your position when being used for wildlife.

Actually I'm not dissapointed at all. I got info about this "new" 1d few weeks ago and I was just wondering if they are serious with those "changes".
But anyway about being dissapointed. I wouldn't upgrade no matter what they would put out. For me and all my work, my current camera (1dmk2 and even old 1d) are enough. It would be nice to have 40fps instead of 8fps, so even monkey could securely take shot at sport event, but that's only thing which would make me consider upgrading. I have more then enough pixels, af can track anything I'm shooting (and it's not slow moving stuff ;) ) and right now I can't think of anything what would be missing from my current camera... except before mentioned monkey... ooops 40fps I meant :D

Or on the other side it could mean Canon doesn't have any need to put something more out. Unfortunately Nikon has nothing which could compare to specs of current 1dmk2 so why bother putting out more. They will do it as soon as Nikon will produce something and till then they will be upgrading firmware...errr camera models I meant.

It's easy to just look at specs and says it's not much of an upgrade, but it is very likely that they have improved high ISO performance, which will be beneficial to many available light shooters. It will likely be even better than the 20Ds ISO 3200 performance now.

48 JPEG/22 RAW buffer sounds great, but isn't that the same RAW capacity as the current 1D MK II? Small RAW buffer is one of my main complaints about the 20D.

I probably wouldn't upgrade if I already had a 1D Mk II, but I hope this at least means I can get into a 1D Mk II for $2500 in a few months.
