These were taken last week off the Million Dollar Highway between Silverton and Ouray Colorado in the San Juan Range.
Elevation roughly 10,000 feet.
It's a great time of the year here. The aspens turn this color for only a week or two and then they're gone.

Dino- thanks for the shots! I'm heading out this afternoon for the Western Slope. Looks like I might just have to take a trip down Million Dollar Highway. With all the green last week, it should be at Peak color this week.

Dino- did you take a side road to get to these areas or hike up a trail?

Thanks!

There is a trail just below Red Mountain Pass on the Ouray side that is called the Ironton Township Trail.
It has maybe a dozen abandoned buildings from the 1880's and the remnants of the mine itself.

There are a lot of great hiking and jeep trails in this area near the top of the pass. One of the best is Black Bear Road. Jeep rental agencies specifically bar you from driving on it in all of their standard contracts.
It is definitely not for the faint of heart.

I'm not sure why the water is so yellow. It's probably because it runs through a lot of old mine tailings that appear to be some kind of chalky clay material. It's just in this area that it runs this color. By the time it gets to lower elevations it is pretty much filtered out.

Great shots of one of my favorite areas. I believe the creek color is caused by iron picked up along the way. In some places it is a more distinct reddish color.
