All I'm saying is they missed the mark "I" was hoping for. That's just my opinion.

By the way, Canon isn't the ONLY FF DSLR out there:

I'll just wait it out until they do hit the mark "I" am looking for before "I" upgrade. That's all I'm saying.

OK even though that sounds nuts at first glance.. Let me brainfart for a second.

Ni**n D2x has a crop mode that shuts off part of the sensor.. Just for kicks, what if they would have made an "EF-S Mode" that crops the camera when an EF-S lens was put on the body?

Oh no!!! I want it but it's so expensive!!!

Well, just to ease my feelings, let's look at what the 5D does not have.

It does not have the 45-point AF system of the 1-series cameras. It looks like it has the 20D's AF system with some improvements, such as 6 extra invisible AF points for AI Servo mode. The AF system works with f/5.6 lenses, but not with f/8 lenses like the AF system in the 1-series cameras.

It has only 3 frames per second, slower than the 20D.

It doesn't have a built-in flash.

...But it does have twice as many pixels as my 10D, no crop factor, a bigger LCD, DIGIC II, ISO settings in 1/3 stops, ... and I hope it has a nice big and bright viewfinder.

Now where do I get 3459 Euros from.....

Why I want the 5D:

The smaller size compared to the 1 series.
Viewfinder w/ interchangeable focus screens.
ISO 50!!!!
Spot-metering.
FULL FRAME!!!

Why I probably won't get the 5D:

No pop-up flash (I know, I'm an amateur by heart........but its not weather sealed so I don't know why Canon didn't just stick one in there).
Most important, PRICE!!! A body that cost more than 2500 is just way TOO much for my budget.

I will wait for a used one...............or a used 1D MKII.

from all reactions i've seen on this 5D, the price listed is near daylight robbery. I read it would be around £1500 which is what? un U$D? roughly 2700...now, if it really is going to be as hefty as $3200 (or around there) thats going to come in to around £1775. which is a lot. well, 1500 is a lot but pushing 2k will be a bit out of reach for what many of us would be willing to pay. seems like all you really get is a few more mpix and a full sized sensor. and NO weather proofing!! gaaaah!
this isn't just a cut down 1 series, its a hybrid in-betweener. I think canon are very much testing the water with this one to see how it performs. the long and short of it is that it WILL sell well, its a ff body at a greatly reduced price.

odd that the mkII hasn't chaged as much as suspected to match the nikon dx2 (or what ever its called)

We'll not really.. No dispute it is the cheapest FF dSLR on the market by $4.5k!!!

Take a 1dsMKII $8000 subtract the 5D $3400 = $4600

Ok soo.. do the math.. in a 1DsMKII you get what for $4600 vs. a 5d

IMO makes the 5d a STEAL!!

p.s.
If you want to Burt Rutan to buy a space ship.. you might think he is charging too much.. but when no one else is making one.... you kind of don't have a leg to stand on..

For those sort of prices you can get a used 1DmkII, which is what I'm aiming to do. I'm note bothered about the extra full frame sensor, but instead am more interested in the focusing accuracy of a 45 point AF.

Problem is, I can't see many people selling their 1DmkIIs to get a 5D.

If the street price settles out near $2800 I will probably pick this up rather than buying a 16-35 for my XT. I then can leave my 100-400 parked on the XT (using crop factor for extra reach) and use the 5D for all other missions with other lenses.

That is the problem,.. you are comparing apples to airplanes.. they are 2 ENTIRELY diferent markets!!! that is why they made a 1dMKIIn.
