What's that, like a 35mm lens on 35mm format?

Hmm, 0.8 'crop'. Like the sound of that.

That's a good starting point if you want the kit. I would buy the body and a different lens.

I'm not familiar with MF sensors plus FOV with lenses. So, if Pentax has a 35mm lens for the 645D, what would be the FOV be like? 30mm? Is that wide enough?

80mm is generally the standard lens for MF. We used a hasselblad h3dII 31mp at work with the 80mm lens for portraits... well til it **** the bag. Now its a $20k dollar paper weight lol.

It stopped working one day and gave a error msg on the back saying needs calibration. Well the quote was like $800-2K dollars to ship and fix and my command said HELL NO! ROFL.

75-80mm is considered a "normal" on full-sized 6x4.5mm 120 film. As a result, most digital medium format cameras, even though their sensors are smaller, have typically been bundled with a 75-80mm lens since that's what was already designed and available, and easy to update for digital. Sort of like how 50mm lenses are still very popular for use on APS-C cameras despite being "normal" for 35mm film (technically 42mm is normal for 35mm film, but 50mm is what stuck).

The 55mm is equivalent to about 45mm on the 645D with its smaller-than-645-but-larger-than-35mm sensor, so it makes good sense. Since the previously ultrawide 35mm lens in their lineup is just a normal wide angle on the smaller digital sensor, Pentax is currently developing a new lens (among others) to fill the role of an ultrawide on digital MF sensors.

Well, if that winds up the actual UK price, the actual US price would likely be lower than a straightforward pound/dollar conversion. If they can get it to the States at all, I suspect it will be at the same price as a 1DsIV...unless Canon blinks.

It's an interesting alternative for landscape shooting and I shall be interested to read any proper in depth test reports.

My problem is that I have a wife who is an out and out "petrolhead" and I cannot see it working as a motorsports body. That means at the very least I'd have to hang onto the 30D and 100-400.

Canon have created a serious dilemma in our household by abandoning the 1Ds mark4 launch. Even though I think I can see that it would have had a very short shelf life with Nikon*, Leica, Hasselblad and now Pentax throwing their caps into the ring. It would have been a perfect compromise solution.

*At least AP is claiming that Nikon have something "big" coming in 2011.

I'm definitely interested in seeing more tests and reviews on this camera when it's released. I would use this camera for landscapes. :)
