Over on DPReview are several announcements for the latest Canon offerings. A few new A-Series models, some SD-Series models, a new DSLR lens and 2 new DSLRs. No G or Pro series, though. I hope Canon isn't done with these kinds of cameras!

I feel the same way. They also didn't replace the 20D so there's hope.

I would like to see a Pro 1 replacement with a dSLR type CMOS sensor and a big lens.

The scuttlebut is that the Prosumer P&S market is flat. I'm sure it is. As long as they give us all the features EXCEPT a good sensor, it will remain flat. We want the high ISO - low noise the Rebel has. When we get that, the segment will fire up.

Couldn't agree more. I wondered if we might see some really wacky inovation like instead of using a larger sensor maybe use two smaller ones to 'catch' a similar amount of light (maybe using a rotating mirror or LCD shutters or something to split the beam of light coming through the lens). Looks like at the moment its DSLR or nothing for that quantum leap in image quality. The other thing I'm surprised hasn't happened yet is (possibly linking in with the multi-sensor approach) being able to shoot panoramic digital (in an analogous way to the Hasselblad X-pan) instead of having to rely on stitching. I'm sure the technology will catch up eventually but at the moment it looks like they're trying to funnel us all back to the old SLR model (which makes them a lot more money I'd guess).

Right you are. But I would pay a little more for an 8 mp APS sized cmos sensor, big 12X IS lens, full featured (like the G series) with a large swiveling display that gives me a live preview. I don't want no stinkin' mirror.

Hopefully clean high ISOs for p&s digitals is just around the corner. The Fuji F10 has useable ISO 800-1600 so I hope the other manufacturers take notice and follow suit. I love available light but my G3 just has too much noise so I have to resort to the 10D which isn't convenient in every situation.

It's got to be time for a Pro1 redo. Doesn't it?

Hehehe

Give Canon a break - they have been busy!

I have heard the Pro 1 wasn't a big seller so I don't know if you'll se a replacement anytime soon. The G6 has been doing very well, no big rush to change, and would an 8 MP G7 be a big deal for most of us?

Hopefully if there is a G7 - they will go back to making it look like a Canon - rather than a Coolpix.......The G5 was the best looking G series camera to me...............looks don't take good pictures - but lets face it - looks play a role in the buying process.

I agree, good camera also a good toy which you want to touch again and again, but with G5 and G6 .... I would not totally agree, I like that G6 actually smaller with bigger grip and for me it looks better. Maybe the color ....Black G5 looks more seiours :-)

Fuji will have an E900 that will be available in October. I hope that it will have same useable ISO800 and it also has RAW. I hope that Canon has its own E900 version while the new Canon S80 doesn't provide RAW format. I will wait a while to see if I invest some xD cards!
