So I just came back from spending two days in the wilderness and had a lot of time to take pictures and think...and I realized I want a 1D.

But, my favourite lens is the Tokina 11-16, which I know is designed for the 1.6 crop (I have a pair of 30Ds right now).

I remember seeing something about the lens working on a 1.3 crop 1D if it's zoomed in a little. I did the math, zoomed into about 13-13.5 on a 1D will give you the same 35mm equivalent as 11mm on a 30D.

Sooooo can anyone confirm whether you can use this lens on a 1D? If yes, how much do you have to zoom in? Can you post some sample pics and the EXIF (as in what mm you took it at) PLEASE and thank you :)

Also, will this work on a 5D at all? Somewhat considering a 5DC...but probably will go with a 1D.

Thanks,
Tamas

Thanks :) unfortunately the first shot looks a little weird...I can't decide whether it's just an image of hills, or having that lens on that body introduces crazy curves at the edges...opinions?

Keep the 30D as a back up, sell the other and buy a 1D and keep the 11-16. Done.

Yup, that's the plan...

I'm hoping to sell a 30D with a grip as well as my Tamron 17-50 f2.8 to cover the cost of a 1D MkII

However...I'd still like to know if I'd see any high-ISO gain from switching to the 1D :)

no problem. I love this lens. even on a full frame, it's still pretty sharp and usable. the range IS limited (noticeable vignetting at < 16mm), unless you want to do the circular effects.

What's up with the outlines of the people? Looks very cartoonish.

Was this multiple photos merged for the HDR effect?

Cool shot either way!

yes. multiple slow exposures, which is why you see the motion blur (photomatix tried to remove it but failed). I didn't bother photoshopping those guys out. it's just a fun image :)

steep vignetting turns up at 14.5mm and wider.

Thanks! I keep forgetting just how useful Flickr can be for these kind of things.

I think I'm 99% decided on a 1D3!!! Now just have to sell all my current gear lol
