Here's the new tripod setup with the 60D.

Sweet.

Any position you can imagine.

What tripod is this? Can you give me an exact model number? I've been looking for a good tripod for video. -__-

How are you guys enjoying your 24-105L lens? I can only take reading so many threads with non crop body owners bashing anyone using one wanting to purchase this or the 24-70. :rolleyes: :D I would like first hand accounts of what you like and don't like direct from owners of our cameras. I don't believe the one stop extra aperture would benefit me as much as the extra reach over the 17-55. IS will help, as I like natural light in the house and low light as much as the next guy, and I shoot NO landscape whatsoever. I am using my camera mostly for general walkabout, indoors with my 430EXII, as I like the look of controlled bounce flash, and general photography of our baby due to be born June 2nd. I figure I have the 50mm 1.8 for good low light and great DOF for soft pics of the baby and I may also look into teaming the 24-105 with the 24 or 28 2.8 if I need better DOF and the 50 becomes to tight in certain situations. Has anyone else taken this approach? Sorry for such a long post but I'm going mad researching this so much. :lol:

I absolutely love my 24-105mm I use it in the studio and love the flexibility it allows me. No longer am I hopping back and forth using a prime lens'. Also, I really like the focal length. 38mm equiv on the wide end is wide enough for me for everyday and I really like the additional reach.

The focus is very snapping and the color and sharpness are very good. My primes are sharper, but for a lens with this much range it really impresses me.

I will pair the 24-105mm up with my Sigma 10-20mm for travel and may eventually get the "new" 100-400mm IS as a package. I will then add some nice primes to go with it. The bokeh on this lens is a bit messy, but for most of the shots I will be taking with this lens it does not matter.

I am not a technical kind of person. When I find someting I like, I get, and stay with it. After I bought the 24-105, I found that it is pretty fast, the lens is built well, and I can shoot in most all light and get good results. I am Happy with it. Thats about all I can tell you. It works well with the 60D.

There's all the thinking, and then there's just pulling the trigger and finding out. You won't regret owning the 24-105L. If I could only own one of the lenses I have, this would be the one. I take about 70% of my shots with it. I've never really noticed the speed limitations of being one stop slower. I hunger for other specialty lenses, but, even when I get them, I will still be using this for about 70% of my shots.

I did a bunch of research before I went this lens and I went down to the camera shop to confirm by compare the two and ended with 24-105 as I planned.

So far the 24-105 has been my go to lens for all around and it is easier to take with me in pinch - one body one lens. Before I purchased this lens I thought it would be too tight for the crop body but the 24 end handles quite well and when I need to reach the 105 is just enough. I would love to have F2.8 on the 24-70 but the reach was more important than 1 stop different. Basically, this is one lens that I can take with me on vacation that will cover all the focal length I need.

I carry along a prime 28mm 2.8 Zeiss in case I need low light and indoor wide. But so far for general purpose lens the 24-105 does a great job and it is sharp.

I've personally owned all three lenses. The 17-55 is overpriced and overhyped with subpar build quality. 17mm on a crop just isnt wide enough, and 55mm is barely long enough to make descent compression for portrait work. The 24-105 is great for those looking for a little exra reach and IS. But the 24-70 is still sharper than all three from my experience. Me I prefer a budget UWA 10-22 then a 24-70 followed by the best 70-200L you can afford. The 2.8L zooms produce beautiful bokeh, IQ and image seperation. Sure at 105mm @ f4 it is equal to 70mm at 2.8 but we dont always have the extra 6 or so feet to step back. The 17-55is just never made me happy. Images were decent but the colors were bland compared to the 24-70 or the 24-105..... and the feel of the lens for the money..... dont get me started. The 24-70 sits on my 60d the most. Followed by the 70-200 f2.8 IS mkII and then once in a while a 10-22. But I mainly shoot portraiture and car events. Everybody has needs, mine is dof and the best IQ as well as build quality as Im outdoors on location in crowded events quite often.

Wow, completely the opposite to my findings.

I just got a Manfrotto 190xprob legs and Giottos mh 1302 ball head.

This tripod's extension tube can be set horizontal for putting the tripod flush with the ground.

Really nice and didn't cost more than $300.

I like that rig - Just bought a Manfrotto modo from a member here last week because its light weight for trekking. Less than 3lbs.

If you are getting a tripod. Get one with the horizontal feature, or else you won't be able to get your camera low to the ground. For only $10 more it would be silly not to get this feature.

Legs = $150
Head = $129

when you start getting into these crazy positions, you need more beef than what the specs tell you to keep it solid. My setup can handle 18 lbs. I would not buy anything lighter duty for getting the camera into yoga positions. Combine lighting gear, remotes, beer holder, umbrella, wind, etc. and it adds up. Even for long backcountry hikes, I would not take anything lighter duty.

This is the sturdiest tripod I have ever owned, even better than my old one that weighed twice as much. The DU bushing hinges on the Manfrotto are literally slop and wiggle free.

Thanks for all the input on the 24-105 and how it fits your needs guys. I appreciate it. Only confirms what I had hoped to hear before I get a chance to use it. :D

Seems a popular L on this thread! :cool:

It was a consideration for me but ultimately I went with a similar but wider end zoom option. Either would be a great walk-around but the L wins for portraiture focal length and of course acuity.
