yeah - me too leave LCD in that mode and it clearly says what mode I am using.

primarily this is a camera - that it records mono sound on the body - I knew it before I bought the camera. using external mic, you can record stereo. however - the sound recording has other advantages that are not available (yet) on 7D or 550D.

Quick question for you guys here... I've been approached with a potential trade of my 60D for a good condition 1D MK II. I like the idea of basically having the battery grip built in for added heft and comfort, and the idea that this may track and focus quicker than my 60D for fast action shots, offer a better protection of weather sealing when attaching a weather sealed L series lens for harsher environments (i.e. beach, boating, sand, rain and in the presence of babies and/or toddlers and for some reason the overall IQ in the 1D thread seems to be a bit better than some similar shots here. I realize alot of this could be attributed to the fact the lens benefits the IQ more than the camera but I'm curious to know how much in comparing these two, if anyone has experience with both. Added to that, I would like to make the switch to full frame one day, within a year or two, and like the idea that this is one step closer to full frame being a 1.3 crop to take advantage of the few extra millimeters (approx. 7 mm) gained over the 60D. High ISO comparison also seems to be in favor of the 60D from what I've gathered but not by terribly much. I'm in no way saying my 60D isn't capable nor a great camera as I love it to pieces and has become my baby and I am picking up the 24-105 f4L just as soon as I pick up an overtime day to fund it so I want to know people's honest opinions if making the swap seems like a beneficial one given my wants, or if I would benefit any to keeping it as a back up for said proposed full frame purchase down the road in the form of 5D MK II or III by the time that comes around. The proposed offer would also include cash on his end to me, as I am also curious to anyone's input what I could expect to be a fair amount on his part. Like I said, I'm not sure that I'm ready to part with a near new 60D, but would like opinions as to whether it seems beneficial to future plans. Thanks in advance to anyone for any input or advice. I GREATLY appreciate it. :D

5D MKII is a better choice if you want full frame but if you need fast focus and burst rate then the 7D instead. IMO the 1D is a great camera but kind older system and you loose the video. But if it is a direct trade for your 60D then go for it.

5DMKII or 5D MK III
Enough gear for now... need to get out and shoot more.

Thanks for the info. After just playing with my camera tonight, I don't know that I can give up my baby so soon. :D I'll quit with the comparisons now. Ha!

For myself I simply don't care about FF. The 60D is a do-it-all body for portraiture, landscape and fast action/wildlife. I could easily see myself eventually getting a 7D variant because its built and made for my type of shooting vs the existing 5D II which does not have the burst or AF I want. It will be Very Interesting to see what the 5D III offers, nevertheless!

I hope I'm rid of the current strain of 'upgrade bug' and the 60D should do me for a few yrs minimum. Time for a real Lens.

Enjoy your 60D ;)

If you hit the info. button a few times it will cycle through displays on the LCD, one of them is a nice blown up version of the info from the top and viewfinder, in upper left corner it shows mode. When you're using the display like that you can push the Q button and use the arrows to move around the display and make changes depending on the mode you're in. I usually leave my LCD in this mode.

Thank you for this info, I like the 60D even more :)

Kind regards

Peter

Certainly was. Keep in mind also, that I don't use my screen to preview settings on the camera. I use the top panel or in the viewfinder so I think that may save in the battery consumption.

My problem is too much free time at work that contributes to my poking around this forum, contributing to my curiosity in other bodies. I think my bug has just about passed too. :D I'm new to DSLR photography and bought the XSI, returned it the next day for the T1i then returned that one 3 weeks later for the 60D. I think I may hold a record for the quickest time frame to upgrade, let alone twice. lol

My upgrade bug is not over... actually far from it. I see my 60d being my everyday camera for many years to come, but eventually getting a full frame camera to go along with it. Have to start saving my pennies.

Hi

1. Mono recording on the camera body! Full 1080p HD with HDMI capabilities and MONO sound!

2. Something that has not been noted in any review I have read, there is NO WAY of knowing which mode the camera is using unless you look at the mode dial. This is inconvenient when working at night! There is no indication in the viewfinder, even the illuminated display on the top plate does not indicate the camera mode.

Peter

1) What would be the point of stereo mikes on the body? The two tracks would be identical.

2) Use my camera in the dark a bit. When having problems seeing things, I usually use the quick button on the back, and can tell right away what mode I'm in. I also sometimes use the illumination button and the top panel,

I got my 60D back in November and have spent a lot of time playing around with it. Took it on my recent cruise to the Mexican Riviera and managed to get this shot of a dolphin that was swimming near the ship. Took it using a Canon 70-300IS USM lense. Below is the EXIF data. Thoughts on the picture? Was surprised to get it considering I was on a moving ship and the dolphin was swimming.

Camera Canon EOS 60D
Exposure 0.003 sec (1/400)
Aperture f/6.3
Focal Length 225 mm
ISO Speed 200
Exposure Bias 0 EV

Cool shot. A faster shutter speed would have helped a little I think. Have any others or just this one.
