70mm is 70mm. If the 70mm on the 15-85 brings the duck closer, it's probably due to zoom discrepencies. It's not because it's an EF-S lens.

The discrepancy is EF vs EF-S

I leave if to any person to test for themselves on their crop body (or FF if that is what you have) - to take any focal length they choose (24mm, 70mm, whatever) and compare the same focal length on an EF lens and then an EF-S lens - and see for themselves the difference.

That focal length on a crop body using an EF lens will zoom your subject closer vs that same focal length on an EF-S lens.

We all know the 60d is crap. I'll do you a favor and take it off your hands for $300. CND.

Here's the thing...it's 1100 new so 100 bucks off puts it at 1000. I'd let her go for $950 shipped as long as the paypal fees were taken care of.

No. That is incorrect. Whether it be an EF or EF-S lens, the focal length is the same. Only the field of view changes. Proof? I just checked 28mm on my EF 28-135 and Tamron 17-50mm. The Tamron is a crop sensor lens, equivalent to EF-S lenses. Both at 28mm, the field of view is EXACTLY THE SAME on my 60D. Even though the 28-135 is and EF lens and the 17-50 is an EF-S equivalent lens, the field of view is still the same.

drPheta - I now see you are correct and I was wrong and I am very sorry for sticking to this EF/EF-S misconception I have.

Thank-you for remaining respectful and civil in this disagreement.
Excellent example of civility in this thread!

Ok - maybe I am on the right track with this thinking: At 70mm - a duck will look closer on my 60D - vs 70mm on a 5D.... yes?!

I'll bet a $1.00 on this one!

Yes, because of the crop factor (1.6x)

You're 70mm lens on a crop camera is similar to a 112mm lens on a full frame camera.

It is quite simple actually:

- EFS means that the mount type is different than the EF (sits deeper into the body, has the offset white dot for mounting, smaller less wasteful image circle on the sensor), nothing else, no impacts to the focal ranges designated, those ranges match an EF lens focal range

- Stick a 70mm onto a FF vs an APS-C, both will shoot at 70mm, however the APS-C will crop out a section of that image that results in an 112mm view as compared to the FF

Therefore, the final results give the illusion of a 112mm zoom lens, thus the misconceptions. :)

I am sure SkipD will be joining the discussions shortly. ;)
