He he, you guys are funny. It's nothing really major, but it's a nice first step for me.

Ok I'll help you out, JLP, I think this tripod could work :

Just kidding, do you have a budget? I tripod is usually a big investment and is a place you don't want to go cheap. Under 100$ you'll usuallly end with a cheap thing that won't be steady enough to hold your camera securely. Buy cheap, buy twice ;)

The real question is how much do you plan to spend on one

I'd add to that question what lenses do you plan to use with the tripod and do you plan on carrying it around/hiking with it or will it just stay in a studio. I recently picked up a closeout Benro carbon fiber tripod because I do plan on hiking with my tripod and wanted something strong enough to hold a heavier lens, but light enough that I wouldn't notice it too much when hiking with it.

That is a nice budget for a tripod, you should be able to get a good one with a nice head. Have a look here Accessories & Storage
and search for tripod. You'll have more than enough threads that talks about them specifically. ;)

Hope I helped!

so i've joined the Canon fold with a 60d and a tamron 17-50 2.8 (non VC)... got the body for $888 hopeing that the rebate would drop the price another $100 but understanding canons reputation for bumping price to offset I purchased last week and figured i'd send it back if the $100 rebate would help... so i'd been limiting my shutter count.

i'm coming from a pentax k10d and i'm utterly amazed at the high ISO quality... and how bright the view finder is (vs the kit lens on the pentax)... I shall miss some feature of pentax but the canons button lay out is gret and lens options are amazing (especially comparing the used market to what pentax options I had)...

next pay day (this weekend I think lol) i'll be picking up a speedlight (leaning towards a metz 58 af1) and as soon as I sell the pentax kit and old dell XPS laptop a 70-200 will be at my door (debating 3rd party 2.8 or the non IS f/4 canon)

I'm still learning the camera but overall i'm VERY pleased
this shot specificly... I was messing around in manual mode and forgot to change before I snapped... it's about 4 stops low, with minor PP in lightroom I was able to make it usable (and a bit funny)

Just started using the wireless trigger setup with my Sigma 530 DG Super flash, and it's amazing. So cool that I can light a whole room with one flash. Now I just need to make a power pack for it!

You have a MacBook Air and no external optical drive? Is it your only computer?! The Air has always been designed to be a 2nd computer, physically lightweight and configured for lighter duty operation. However, Apple does sell external optical drives for what you need to do ($80).

I wish I could help, but it wouldn't be legal for me - or anyone for that matter - to upload it. I'd suggest using another machine to upload it from your CD (or DVD) so that you can grab it by your MacBook Air.

Interesting that you're choosing to shift now, when Pentax is finally starting to put out some quality digital with the Samsung connection, and decent third party (Sigma and Zeiss) lens options are available. A more comparable camera to the K10 would probably be my old XTi/350D. It only has ISO 1600. Let's face it, the 60D kicks my XTi's butt big time, as well! If you want and can afford the high end glass, Canon is definitely a step up. Welcome to the fold!
