Hey M_J ~

further to our brief discussion on the "jpeg smudgies" (post 3789) we sometimes get in Lr3 when exporting to jpeg - I identified yesterday that it is not Facebook, or Flickr, or this forum's fault but rather it happens in the export to Jpeg process...

Yesterday I exported a shot of my dog and it looked clean and sharp in the Develop Module display - then I exported to jpeg and when I right-clicked and selected 'Preview' - there it was with his fur-coat (in a certain area) pretty smudgy... and that is how it looked on Flickr, and when uploaded directly to this forum.

I posted the issue on the Adobe Lightroom forum and they are perplexed - so I've been troubleshooting as to what setting is the main culprit for the Smudgies and if I get an answer I'll pass it on.

Cheers ~

What was your jpeg compression/quality setting?

That was really cool.....thanks for posting it.

So....since I'm to lazy to look it up, can we shoot video in that mode with the 60D?

Jon...

Tilt-shift lens? Never used one, so I don't know.

Geez, I hope today picks up here! It's been pretty boring lately. I know that everyone can't be out shooting. Maybe your right Macro..., and they have all defected to Nikon, and the dark side...:shock::sad::shock:

What was your jpeg compression/quality setting?

It has not mattered - 50% or 100% looks the same.

I found out that it has been firefox & Windows Photo Viewer that have been the culprits all this time - I downloaded Chrome and my photo in question looked great, also looked great in Quicktime viewer, FastImage Viewer, etc.

So I googled the firefox issue and I found a fix and it worked - but a fellow on the Lightroom forum Insists its a corrupted color management Profile and I need to delete it.

well I have not been able to, says its needed by Windows. So still troubleshooting "his" method, and the one I found seems to work. But there are many who swear by proper Color Management Calibration and it would be wise for me to continue down that path.

anyways - I know for a fact it has not been a "export to jpeg issue, or a flickr or Facebook issue. So at least I have pinned it down and I have a means of seeing what my jpegs really look like.

Edit: also - the main issues I had was dark browns and blacks looking smudgy, when in reality they were not
