Used the 60D to shoot a video today, riding my human-powered trike. Just a titch on the bumpy side. Going up Main St. Daytona Beach Bike Week 2011.

That was really cool.....thanks for posting it.

So....since I'm to lazy to look it up, can we shoot video in that mode with the 60D?

Jon...

Tilt-shift lens? Never used one, so I don't know.

Finally got a chance to look at the manual and it appears the only miniature mode built into the camera is for stills.

Oh well, no big deal but it would have been fun to play with.

Tips on metering...

If I use one of the 9 focus squares as the point of my focus....then that is also the point of my metering right?

I notice if I use a focus square on a dark part of the frame then it will over compensate and try to then make the rest of the frame kind of match that dark spot I may have metered on.

The same is true of a light area.

So...is the aim to attempt to meter on some mid range (I've heard grey is the colour to aim for) colour/ light source in the frame?

Others have said....meter the sky....focus on the sky and set exposure for that.

What if I am shooting street shots and I am in and out of shade?

Is that the nature of street shooting? The general/ potential lack of control? The spontaneous nature of the results/ a lot of non-keepers?

Anyway...how do you meter 'on the fly' with the 60D?

thanks

An aside here. Here's a shot of mine and my wife's trikes as set up for cool weather. I remove the bigger fairing for bike week and don't put it back on until late November or December. These are older models that were upgraded to newer rear suspension systems. The ICE guys keep coming up with improved designs that now have better and easier folding, full suspension on all three wheels and their trikes are considered some of the best made as far as steering, braking and generally being perfect right out of the box--although you can option them from a base price of $2400 to around $4000.

Our models and their successors are seat-height adjustable, have greater ground clearance, can cruise between 12 and 18 mph, are stable at 40-45 mph on down hill runs, and allow for comfortable walking speed climbing of hills. Enough said, I don't want to sidetrack the thread.

@cybermaniaK--- Thanks!!! I appreciate the feedback.

Doggie shot with the 70-300 in sig, yep -

Always wise to use a hood and if you cannot afford the Canon - eBay always has China-cheapies - which is what I got for my 15-85.

my hoods are on virtually always ;-)a

Yep, both of the pictures came from the 18-135, zoomed out to 135mm. The cat picture is indoors, natural light from the window, the trees are outdoors (obviously :) ) from about 4 ft away. In those and my other test shots I was really pleased with the performance, especially for a "kit" lens and being used to L glass. If you'd like to see the full res versions I can post them up when I get home tonight.

I wasn't using a hood for either of these, in fact I forget it a lot more often than I should.

Yup on the hoods. Mine are on almost always. Not only does it block out unwanted light, it offers lens protection.;);)
