hello people wrote in post #11972197 (external link)
Tips on metering... If I use one of the 9 focus squares as the point of my focus....then that is also the point of my metering right?...

Edit: The statements below are wrong; you can set the light metering to center around any autofocus point which is used as the point of focus. See LINK.

The autofocus points are not identical to the light metering mode. Per page 119 of the Canon 60D manual there are four metering modes. The "Spot mode" come closest with it covering a bit more than the center focus point.

The focus point(s) and the metering mode are selected independently. For example, you can set the camera to use only the leftmost (9 o'clock) focus point and yet use the "Spot" mode for light metering which is centered around the center autofocus point.

p.s. There is a concurrent thread regarding exactly what part of the image is used for a given autofocus box in the image. It seems the area of the image used for a given autofocus point may extend slightly beyond the displayed box. The center box may be an exception. This thread starts HERE.

Really nice shot David!

What kind of setup/modifiers did you use?

Oh and I here a preview of my today's session. It was my first time working with three lights, I really liked it. I still have a whole lot to learn! Let me know what you think :D

Corey, same setup as before. Main in a 24'' softbox camera right, fill in an 45'' umbrella camera left and background flash behind and to the left, snooted.

I'll post a picture of the setup when I'll get home ;)

I tried my hand at doing a head shot. I placed her about 5 feet from the drapes and then shine a light on the drape. The flash I used was a 430 EX. the lens is a EFS 55-250mm 1:4-5.6 IS lens.

I was there 87 - 90 with 3rd ID and in 91 with 8th ID.

If I may inquire, when did you retire from the Rangers? were you ever with 2nd BN. up at Ft. Lewis?

So the best I can figure it:

$874.99
349.99
45 shipping
$1269.98
-$88 coupon
-$30 cash back from Mr Rebate (caps at $30)
-12.70 discover
-$25.20 ebay bucks
-$200 from sale of printer (estimated)
-$400 AMEX card from rebate

$514 for body.

Nice Price!!! I am envious of that buying power!

Not sure. It doesn't usually take this long, most things from the US come in about a week or so total, but it's been a week in customs alone.

I ordered the tripod on Thursday from B&H, They shipped it on Friday, just arrived about 2 hours ago. That was with Purolator though. The 60D is coming USPS/Canada Post.

Sucks I have the tripod, remote shutter, and a lens hood for the 18-135 all show up before I even have the camera lol
