I have the money finally for the body, another two weeks and I'll be buying the body with a lens.
I want to get a all around good lens that could be my everyday shooting lens that's under $500.
Anyone have good suggestions? I've been tossing a turning on just the kit lens, but I think I'm going to spend the little extra money for a better lens.
I love landscape, and just your walking on hike photography. Plus want to try portraits, and some video.

For outdoors and on your budget I'd get the 70-300. I have the 18-135 kit lens and when hiking around I get lens creep. I think I'd like the 300 since it locks the lens in place. I'd suggest the 55-250, but not sure if the lens locks. When hiking here in the mountains it's nice to have the reach if I see wildlife. Again I'm thinking of this lens if you're on a budget and thinking of getting something in the same price range of the kit lens. I've seen them here locally used for around $350-400. I got the first IS 75-300 for $100 and have been pleased, but really would like the locking option. Here's som pics from that lens
https://photography-on-the.net …=1021854&highlight=75-300

This is also based on my idea of hiking. Meaning in the mountains or outdoors away from the city. I have no basis for city hiking really other than most of my city type pics have been done with the 18-135. Hope that helps!

my next one hopefully will be a 28mm or something prime shorter than 50mm. looking for a walk around prime. when i walk around the 50mm seems to be double the focal length then id like.

Hi guys! I'm new to the forum and "maybe" a future owner of a 60D. But that "maybe" is really big. I have been trying to decide for weeks now what camera to upgrade to; either a 7D or 60D, without success. All my options are at 50%; I even made a comparasion chart of both with what I want to do and they both scored similar (0.01 of difference over 10) and I don't know what to do. I have seen lots of 60D hate posts so far so I'd like you to show me some light on the benefits of the camera compared with the 7D. I have already read at least half of this thread -it took me ages- and I noticed some of you have both (Ranger); your opinion would be highly valued...

Some background about where I come from... I have right now a 400D. Because I'm always on the move and travelling, I usually have with my a Tamron 18-270 VC. At home I have three more glasses but none is too good (non-L lens). I shoot mostly wildlife, action (7D), travel and people (60D). I usually shoot a lot in harsh environments with lots of dust like the Middle East, or rainy like South East Asia (weather sealed 7D) and already have a large collection of CF cards (7D) but I value a lot light weight, longer battery life and ergonomics on my small hands (60D).

As you can see the decision is not easy...

Also, how much better is the AF on the 60D with regards to the 7D? And have you ever missed a shot for being the 60D short in fps?

Thanks from a head about to explode...

^^^^
The AF on the 60D is 9 points. Which is far from the 7D's AF system. The 60D's AF system does a good job, and I have found it to be very reliable.:D;)

This is a golf ball in a snow globe. I thought that all the air on the ball looked cool so I snapped a shot.

One thing to note is that 60D owners are a satisfied lot. There's actually very little bashing here, and when it does happen, it's often people with a limited number of posts and questionable motives. Sounds like you want the 7D, though. One thing to keep in mind is that Canon models traditionally have an 18 month replacement time, and the 7D has been out since September 2009. Tsunami conditions permitting, I expect a new announcement in the next month, and a new model (7D Mark II?) out in June/July. I wouldn't buy a 7D right now, but then I already own a 60D.

I'm satisfied. Came from a T1i, looked at both the 60D and 7D, handled both and fell in love with the 60D and haven't looked back since. A majority of the bashing, and others will correct me if I'm wrong, was from 50D owners who expected something the 60D wasn't. It's not that it is better or worse, just different. It's an excellent camera.

Oh no... I know... I just wanted to clarify I dont work alone. I always have my MUA (my wife), hairstylist and a second shooter at most my shoots.

One day, I'll also have my own team ;)

Oh and nice wildlife pictures ;) :p
