Stay away from Komputerbay

Just got conformation that Komputerbay sold me a fake SanDisk card.

I bought it through Amazon and they are going to make things right. Just thought I would give a heads up so other people don’t go through the trouble.

How can you tell it is fake? It looks visually similar to the 16gb I got from B&H last month. What is the giveaway?

The font and the dots on the back look identical to mine.

I was looking around the net and heard about bogus cards. I guess all SanDisk cards have a tracking number on them and this one did not. So I got a hold of SanDisk and they wanted photos. Just got the email back saying that this card was not from them.

I gave the appropriate review on Amazon and told them (Amazon) what had transpired. They said they would make it right so will see.

My 16GB does have a 13 character serial number printed above the "MADE IN CHINA", but it is very difficult to see if there is any glare on the card so I missed it the first time.

macroshooter1970 Thanks. It's a hassel but not the most I've been taken for...lol

This is from the email SanDisk sent:

"Thank you for resending the images and I just check the photos and unfortunately this is not a valid SanDisk card, I strongly suggest to call the store to have it replace and in my part I will forward this case to our HQ to give them heads up."

I don’t even know if the card works although it must. I did put it in the camera and thought that it was funny that my Transcend card had more room or a higher number of pictures that could be stored to the card then the SanDisk. Something made me look around the net and BINGO!

Publishing is a relative term -published to my website/flickr. No, can't say I'm in print anywhere that I know of for sure. Parks Canada got a picture for their database from me lately, and I'm sure they'll use it sooner or later. And someone bought a picture from my SmugMug. Can't say it's a profitable endeavor, but then it's not my day job, either!
