David. Those are two great shots! I bet it's a nice change of pace! I have said it once, and I'll say it again. You have a lot of talent as a photographer, and you'll go far. Nice work.;):D

Thanks Allen, shooting with a 1.4x teleconverter is indeed different. I just seem to get that extra reach, less cropping needed. But now I feel like 200mm isn't enough, I'd love to go longer. But, one thing at a time. I just got the 135L, gotta wait a bit for the next upgrade ;)

Yeah, I am at a point where I will have to wait now before buying any more equipment too.:(;)

HELP! Wierd issue with brand new Sigma 30 1.4

Hey all, I just finally got this awesome lens and immediately noticed a wierd issue that doesn't seem to affect performance at all, and I was hoping to see if someone could shed some light on it for me.

In video mode (only), when I adjust the aperture it makes an audibly distinct "clicking" noise. Doesn't matter if I'm going wider or narrower, each stop makes a noise. In a quiet room, it's actually almost as loud as the shutter when you half-press AF. It doesn't seem to affect performance however, manual focus (still new and a bit rigid) is smooth and on target, and when I shed light on the front element I can see the aperture opening and closing apparently just fine and without issue. Googling this issue returns a number of results saying others have this too and it's not an issue, but a few state that it's a problem and to send it back. Personally, I've never had a lens do this so I don't know what to do.

Any and all assistance would be most appreciated, thanks!

That is your aperture moving. Unless you shoot wide open all the time that sound is just mixed in with the shutter/mirror.

To make the same sound, set a narrow aperture of say f8 and click the depth of field button. (when your in av/M mode.)

Thanks!

I don't really shoot cars much either. I'm used to landscapes and buildings. They don't move much and you can take your time setting up. Not so much standing in the middle of 3 corners on an Auto-X course :D I managed to get about 8 frames of a Mustang sliding off into the grass on that course, dirt and grass flying, but I focused late so they're not all that great. Wish I knew how to make gifs.

My "fun" car is an '06 GTO. 530 or so at the rear wheels. I'm sure you'll be seeing pictures of that around soon. As soon as I get enough time to put the new wheels and tires on anyway. I need to track down another light or two to get some shots worthy of what I've seen posted here though :D

Yay for real cars!!! Not from the 60, but fun none the less. I'll get some of her with the 60 too.

Too bad you guys cant fit real rubber under those fenders. And that they weigh a TONNN! But still I love the LSX engines, simple and to the point...

My 540whp 2500lb car on 18 x 12" rear wheels and 18 x 10" fronts. Fenders have been pulled to clear em...

Yes I spend thousands on my wheels and make the car fit the wheels. Im a sucker for 3 piece ultra wide custom built wheels. AKA a Wheel Whore!!!

Nice! QSM was my second choice. I have an IBM.

SuicidnS13, I know what you mean about being a wheel whore. In the 3 years I've had this car, I think I've had 4 or 5 sets of wheels on there. Just picked up a set of SSR GT2's for it recently. 19 lbs. for the rears and just over 17 lbs. for the front. I think the stock ones weigh in around 38 lbs, and my current ones are heavier than that! So I'm losing a TON of rolling mass. As far as tire width goes...At the horsepower levels you're at (and me for that matter), even getting a 315 back there (coming soon for me, with a minitub) wouldn't help much anyway.

I don't care about the weight of the car all that much though. I was looking at some Z06's and some Vipers...Then I drove the Goat. It's 10x nicer to drive (and hey...half the price too!), so that's why I bought it instead. I love the car.

I also love the gto aka holdens. Its so unamerican with an actual quality looking and feeling interior. Unlike the vettes and the vipers. The 6.0 ls2 responds great to a heads and cam setup. They shoulda learned from the gto's interior when it came to the current camaron cause that things interior looks like it came out of a rubbermaid add designed by a ten year old toy designer. Good luck with your future tub project. Theres a guy who rolls down to our Cars and Coffee meet here with a twin turbo setup dynod at over 950whp and he runs 275's... Hahahahahhahaha everytime I roll up I tell him to man up and have the fenders pulled. Any decent body shop can fix the damamge later.

How do you like your ssr's? Ive owned a set of the professors sp1's but I wasnt a fan of the stepped lips. I now have the Work vs-kf's and the Wed Kranze's photographed. I hated waiting 3-4 months for wheels. But its so worth it once you see 6" of lip in the rear with proper wheel fitment. Plus the option to rebarrell them wider or narrower or replace lips due to accidents is great too.

I don't know if I like them yet...I don't have them on the car. I mounted one rear tire on a wheel to check clearances, and I need to do some "percussive maintenance" on my mufflers as well as move my shock mounts inwards an inch or so in order to keep them from rubbing or getting melted. It took months but I finally got a set with offsets that will allow me to lower the car and tuck them a bit, as I'm not a fan of the poked/stretched/flush look on the GTO. But I mainly got them for the weight and the color...I'm sick of my current (heavy) black wheels. My car looks like a bruise :D
