I am sure this has already been asked, but what is a good zoom lens for the 60D? I currently have the kit lens 18-135 but would like something that can zoom in a little further.

I just picked up a 55-250 IS on Monday, so far VERY impressed, especially considering the cost of the lens. It can focus throughout the entire zoom range from only about 3 feet away, so it can even take some macro-ish shots (no it's not a true macro, but it can work to get a similar effect on a budget). If you look a few pages back in this thread you can see the pics I took with it yesterday in my front yard using it to take close ups of a tree and some flowers.

It would make a good compliment to your kit lens to get some more reach.

Cameras: 7D2, S100
Lenses: 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM, 18-135 STM, 24-70 f/4L IS USM, 50 f/1.4 USM,70-300L IS USM
Other Stuff: 430 EX II, Luma Labs Loop 3, CamRanger

Money-wise the 55-250 and the various Sigma and Tamron zooms intended for the crop cameras. Otherwise any of the 70-300 zooms for full frame will work fine on your camera, as will something like the Sigma 150-500mm OS.

The bird was at 500mm length, shot with 60D and the Indian deer at 150mm with a 7D.

I don't think I have shown this image here in the 60D thread. With 15-85mm IS, a stitch of several frames. Detail in the whole image is amazing. I used Photoshop CS5 photomerge. ISO 100. 1/125s @ f7.1

Qutab Minar, near New Delhi, India, late afternoon.

Great shot!:D;)

I love this site and thread already.

I just got a few pics taken last night of some random things because I had to return my first 60D because it was DOA. Didn't even turn on. But the camera shop was very cool about it and exchanged it no problem.

Anyway, here is a pic of a flower I took to try it out.

Thanks man. I finally did a video of some fire ants tearing up a caterpillar. Hard to stay still being 3 or so inches away. Will have to do that again with camera mounted on something.

That sounds cool as hell. Can't wait to see it!:D

Hey anybody knows if in aperture priority, when choosing lets say F2.8 the camera in "automatic" goes to High speed (of course using a mounted flash that support it ). A friend ask me, but i don't have any flash right now so I can test that. I know that on c.FN I you can set. 1/250-1/60. auto but he is telling me that it's limited to only 1/250. So the camera isn't going to high speed in aperture priority. (he can do high speed only in manual, and shutter priority)

Anyone can confirm this ?

If the flash has HSS us that.

Ofcourse the flash is HSS capable is a 580 EX II.. the problem seems to be when using Aperture priority, the camera itselfs limit the shutter to 1/250 !!

Even if he have it under c.FN I to 1/60-1/250. auto

That's right. Looks like it does it in all modes.

So then only HSS can be used in shutter priority and Manual mode ??
