Guyz,
on High ISO speed noise reduct'n on camera, do you set it to Standard, Low, Strong or Disable? and Why?

thanks.

vinz

I had mine on low - because I love Lightroom's NR control, and I just turned if -Off- now....

some day there will be in-camera NR editing (that can be applied after the shot) - with various settings to choose from, including "Auto", I'm sure - so when that day comes it will mean more control which is good - but - I'd still want to do it on my pc's monitor in Lightroom.

Have you seen the podcasts of B&H? The guy there recommended disable coz he also prefers doing it in big screen with full control.

Mine is actually disabled. I'm just curious and seek more opinion.

thanks for the response.

Trust me guys, a 365 project IS hard. Shooting a picture a day isn't that bad, but having a great/awesome/creative/non-repetitive picture each day is the hard part. Also, sometimes you just don't feel like shooting and want to sleep. But you have to keep up with it. I'm on Day 223 and haven't missed a day. Sometimes one picture a day isn't enough, I'd like to do 2 or 3. But sometimes one is a really big task, specially when sick or really busy at work...

But, it is rewarding. Almost everyone I know knows about my 365. I get a lot of "Hey I really liked X picture, great idea" Friends love to help me and get part of it. It's a really good publicity for me. And I love going back at ealier shots and remember why I took it, what I was doing that etc...

Anyway, you should really start one! :D

My biggest problem is just forgetfulness... I don't think I could make it through all 365 days without missing a couple totally on accident, lol. I think it would make a great coffee table book for the studio (AKA living room). I also want to do it because I think it will push me to get better and keep me learning. I know with artwork when I used to draw all the time I was much better and more efficient with a pencil, now I'm embarrassed of my sketches half the time. I guess that settles it, I have to start one. I'm going to set a daily alarm on my phone to hopefully keep me from forgetting. :)

I can't believe no one else is having a problem with lightroom and their 60d. Here is a comparison between DPP (on left) and lightroom 3 (on right). This is a CR2 file straight out of camera with no adjustments. If this isn't something that all 60d users are experiencing with LR3 what else could be causing this?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Have you disabled all the presets that are used during import into LR3?

Like has already been said, I say there's so many factors it's difficult to know where to begin. I use both programs, and haven't noticed that large of a discrepancy. It was already suggested that monitor calibration. Do it, if you can borrow a calibrator. YES colour profiles make a HUGE difference. I see DPP is on SRGB, so make sure Lightroom is, too. Not Go Preferences>Presets>Reset all Default Develop Settings. If it's something You've monkeyed around with, this should reset it. Conversely, you may have to go into DPP and change some adjustment you've made there -maybe your monitor is a little dark, and it's actually DPP that's under-saturated.

I thought the only time you had a choice of color profiles in lightroom was when you were exporting; lightroom used ProPhoto RGB. How do you change this when working within lightroom?

Here is a quote from another site talking about color profiles in lightroom. am i misunderstanding this?

"Raw photo files generally don’t have embedded color profiles. For raw files, the Develop module assumes a wide color space based on the color values of the ProPhoto RGB color space. ProPhoto RGB encompasses most colors that cameras can record."

Also, how will calibrating my monitor make any change in the difference in colors i'm seeing between DPP and lightroom on my monitor. Do both versons of the flower look like the same color and saturation on your calibrated monitor? Also, on this same computer, raw photos from my xti don't show this difference in color.

I think it could be anything, you decide the rules, but some kind of photo for each consecutive day of one year. I've been wanting to start one but I'm not sure I could keep up with it... now that i think about it I need to just make myself start or it will never happen, lol. :)

I started one, on 17 of 365, been a blast so far. Go for it!
